Thanks Sherri your the best! We are buying another. Can you belive I filled it to the brim in one year. LOL Now I have a brug addiction. We put in the other shelves on the other side and now have no room for bigger plants. Didnt think about how big plants get. hehehe So nice to see you. How are the cactus's doing? Barb

Hello cugal, Have you found this thread? Dewey1945 has written a great blog on the construction of his Harbor Freight 6x8: Improving your 6x8 HFGH And here is a direct link to his blog: Building and Improving the Harbor Freight 6x8" I know the manuals change for all the Harbor Freight greenhouses, over time, but no matter what they seem to stay a little confusing. There are many similarities between the different sizes, but the parts numbers are different. Hi Willa, To work well, the top and bottom tracks need to be parallel and solid. I do have a wooden base under the steel GH base, and that might provide some stiffness to the bottom track. One idea is adding an extra brace to the frame right over the top of the doors, to stiffen up the top track. That seems to help the doors operate more smoothly too. We just added a piece of oak we had, but others folks have used a piece of EMT or aluminum angle in the same spot. The idea is to help prevent the top track from sagging at all if possible. (click to enlarge) Also, this is a good thing to check...there's a small illustration at the bottom of page 15 of the manual, labelled Side View. (Shown below.) This shows you that the small black plastic clip Part 51 has to be guided onto the bottom door track so the small vertical part of the aluminum track is actually threaded up into the vertical gap in the center of black plastic part 51. If you do it right, the bottom leg of the black plastic "L shape" goes down the front and under the L-shaped aluminum door track, as the illustration shows. If you don't install it just like the manual shows, it's actually possible to install the doors so that the black plastic part 51 is just sitting on top of the door track, sliding along in the small valley there. Although your doors can function (sort of) this way, they can also fall off, since they're not truly captured at the bottom in the manner the kit intends. My doors can't even be pulled off the track, top or bottom. I've honestly never seen anyone comment that the wheels can be pulled off the door itself, and there really shouldn't be that kind of pressure on the door to cause that at all...it makes me think something else is wrong with your door tracks (problem with your bottom track rising up?) or, with the black clip not being installed quite right, as in the illustration above. Permit requirements can vary a LOT depending on where you live. This question doesn't seem to come up often here, so either most people aren't required to have inspections for their 10x12 greenhouses...or, maybe they sort of forget to contact the city. In my city, no permit (or inspection) is required for a single-story building 120 square feet or less. (They do require a permit for electrical work.) We also paid attention to how close we could put the greenhouse to the property line. Are you sure your city requires a permit/inspection for a greenhouse this small? Without a permanent (concrete) foundation? If you haven't already, I'd just call the local building permit folks, and find out what is required. The city codes enforcement folks here turned out to be very helpful.

Please do not change a thing about the fireplace itself, it is gorgeous, including the stone mantle. Your floors are gorgeous too -- warm, and the warm colors in the FP, oh my goodness what I'd give to have a FP in my kitchen like that. I agree with others that what you've got on it is too small and too much, also too horizontal. You need (a) vertical thrust (b) simplicity (c) largeness. On either (or both) side(s), what do you think about a large vertical oil painting (or canvas transfer of oil painting) -- NO GLASS, just a framed oil, leaned against the wall, flanked by a pair of large topiaries or candles or wood candelabre (something of a soft material, not metallic or glass, since you have a lot of "hard" going on there with all the brick and stone. I know this is simple, but simple is often good, especially when the fireplace makes such a grand statement all on its own -- so much so that you could practically leave it completely undecorated and it would say enough! The only thing that bothers me a teensy bit is the exposed black firebox and I'm wondering about a simple (but beefy) fireplace screen in front of it. But even so, the rest of the composition says so much that this little point doesn't matter much.

Lol, those silly plants keep growing, don't they. My benches and shelves are full, and so is the floor...only room for one person to walk in there. My only solution right now is to only add new plants that stay very small for years. So, no Brugs for me, although they are lovely!

Hope you will keep us posted on your progress!

Hi Barb, I still love my 2 GH together. Still want the 3rd one but no room. Now have 80 orchids hanging from the roof and they are starting to bloom like crazy, they like where they are I guess. If you have any questions just e-mail me or want more pictures. I have a ton of them but can't get them to post on website. Have no problem with e-mailing them.
Good luck you will love all the extra room. But it doesn't take long to get it all filled up the way you did the first one.
I also have alot of brugmansia, about 12 of then right now. I don't know where I'm going to find room to start all my seeds come Feb. But I have a couple of ideas in mind. More shelves above the benches.

Hi Carol,

I just love your GH! Wow 80 orchids I cant imagine the work involved. I am having a hard time keeping up with the gh. I started a new job and have a three hour drive daily. Leave when its dark and come home in the dark. LOL I told the fiance we defianetly need some light in there. All I have to work with is a 60 watter. I keep tripping over the brug I have growing. Thank goodness I am chopping her up this weekend. She is finally done blooming. It is funny how we come up with new ideas fro more space. Remember last year the GW member who had shelves with a pulley system. How ingenious. We might have to do that. LOL I will most likely get in touch with you when we go to do it in spring. My dining room is now the brug room. Smile

Funny Lady, I was scrolling through the forum and saw your post about not having enough room. Us orchid lovers always seem to have that problem. Anyway, if you have some minitures or small 3 inch pots taking up bench space, here is an idea that was presented at our last orchid society meeting. Get some rain gutters and fit them to the sides of the gh a foot or so higher than the top bench. You can leave a slight angle so the water can drain off, but it will hold lots of plants and you can drain the water off at the end using a garden hose attached to the end of the gutter. Just a thought. What kinds of orchids are you growing? I have a lot of catts in bud right now and my phrags are in full bloom. Betty
