Comments (12)I ordered, paid for & took delivery of 'Osprey' 4+ years ago. It grew, bloomed, thrived...and every year around the middle of August the foliage keeled over, turned orange and looked dead. The first time, I thought it was dead but it came up again the following year. Fast forward to mid-August of this year: I dug the nasty, ugly pile of decayed foliage + roots up and trashed it all. I couldn't think of a place anywhere in my garden where I could transplant it, enjoy it and not have to look at the mess every year. Number of reseeds? Zero. It was pretty when it was pretty but the ugly after-bloom sealed its fate. The regular purple one grows in a different bed and appears to die back without the ugly mess so I've left it alone. Although I've found a volunteer here and there, they always come up in the same spot so I wouldn't say it's invasive or even too enthusiastic....See MoreTradescantia questions
Comments (2)I chop mine down as soon as they finish their first flush of blooms, actually when they still have a bit of bloom. They'll regrow & keep nice foliage the rest of the season, with some rebloom. It helps to give them an occasional deep water during the time it takes them to regrow, 2 - 3 weeks. I have found that if I wait until later in the season (when it's hotter) to chop them down that they have a harder time regrowing. Mine (Zwanenberg Blue & the gold-foliaged one Sweet Kate) grow in mostly sun (zone 5) & I have moisture retentive heavy clay soil....See MoreUPDATE: Tropical Sub-Tropical Surplus Swap

You really make me miss tulips too! (I knew winter was good for something!) Is that a trillium at the top! I can't remember the last time I saw a trillium!I am sorry to hear that Al has pain, I have suffered from hip/joint pain for several years, the doctors have told me the best treatment is 'keep moving' grrrr, sometimes it is very tough to do. Regina I am happy that you are getting some rain! (I hate to complain about water from the sky but it is still raining off and on here! The plants are loving it, but it sure makes it unpleasant outside (muggy, mosquitos and soggy) That Brug is beautiful! I can't wait till mine bloom, I have 3 potted and one in the ground, I just love those leaves! Even if they didn't have flowers My elephant ears hit the ground running too, all this water really perked them up. I cannot believe the size of the leaf on one of them (Is it my imagination or are those leafs still growing?!?!) Here is a photo of some of the plants Michelle sent (see the little rose that bloomed in the box!!! 9 different coleus cuttings!!! can't wait to pot those up! they are gorgeous! Michelle I am sorry to hear about your little GH! Glad that is was not worse and that you and your family are fine! Last of the Iris Peony my herb garden Hummingbird magnet! Comments (56)Still no frost in 10-day forecast... After "playing" with making baby plants all summer, it was time to pot them up. Leaves keep falling on them, I don't want to forget/lose anything. Got these little baskets for .50 at a dollar store, (they even have holes in the bottom!) There's also a mesh of fairly big holes on the sides, so I lined the sides with landscape fabric. I can pull it out once roots establish & stick cuttings through the side holes later if I get too bored this winter. Other side Begonia & Aglaonema cuttings propagated in ground over summer, put in pots a couple days ago. And a few more cuttings I stuck in there right before taking the pic. The thought of any stems going to mush in a frost is so sad! Huernia zebrina is making a flower bud, to the right near the soil. Aloe bellatula is blooming. Noticed this bud stalk forming on a snake plant (Sansevieria.) I've sent boxes of these babies to others, but there's still so many! Kalanchoe x houghtonii....See MoreLee Krieger
