Shasta Daisy's wilted! What did I do ?
Comments (1)Take the plant out of the pot and see the roots. If they are rotten, the plant will die. Overwatering can be one thing. Another can be a strong sunshine on the pot(usually roots do not like to be baked or boiled). Third thing- there is a fungus that causes wilt in Shasta daisies, but I have forgotten its name....See MoreLittle tiny bugs on daisy plant
Comments (10)Shasta flowers are fairly ephemeral ==>>> flora means... that the flowers last barely a day or two ... you must deadhead them ... if you want bloom to continue.. and i suspect.. that she said this.. because you took a pic of a wilting old flower ... one that should be dead headed off very soon ... not sprayed for bugs ... NEVER spray the flower itself.. it will die immediately ... you seem to be on the verge of thinking.. that you have to destroy every bug in your yard .. and i want to dissuade you from thinking such ... other than finding an earwig.. what damage is associated with it??? .. and if you cant.. then ignore the earwigs ... do a little research and find out.. that a vast majority of their diet.. is dead material.. though sometimes.. with high population.. they can scar plants.... but rarely if ever... kill things outright ... ken...See MoreShasta Daisy is not pure white : (
Comments (4)I second identifying the problem before spraying. If it is thrips, there are several really helpful posts that will give you some ideas on dealing with them. If your interested in using organic methods, there is a really informative post in the organic gardening forum. Doing a search will turn up several threads. For your sake, I hope it's something else. Comments (5)I dunno the answer, but a lady that lives a few blocks away has a garden that surrounds the property....half of which are daisies (she has a white theme...very pretty!), but I'm not sure if they are Shasta (I really don't know the difference)all I know is they started blooming a few weeks before mine (this week). From the sidewalk just a few feet from the perimeter of the beds, I can see hardly any foliage at the base...just long flowering stalks. I didn't see anything ugly about it though. I do know that in spring before the flowering begins there is some nice looking foliage at the base. Can you post us a picture? Vera...See Moremichaelg
