Too Much Large Pecan Wood

Too Much Large Pecan Wood on the curb for the taking in 100 degree heat vs the winter and heavy equipment. This has become common due to the old neighborhoodÃ¢ÂÂs needs and competitive rates. With my racks full, I am being very select on close small green oak or Pecan. I took a close load of green Red Oak 4Ã¢ÂÂ-8Ã¢ÂÂ dia + cut off the 12"+ dia major limb this week down from poor trimming and rot on a 50 yr old tree. The major limb is still there.

The Pecan on the truck is what a friend is asking me to help him split. My reply is when itÃ¢ÂÂs below 70 degrees daily after our North TX Heat Wave. He needs to saw up that wood Ã¢ÂÂwith his sawÃ¢ÂÂ into blocks since it will be for future BBQ and Ext fires.

The Bottom Line! I will not to put myself or equipment out in this heat when I have worked to beat the heat. If I had the space I would store more of the pre cut 12Ã¢ÂÂ dia oak and pecan for the seasons to come (splitting it when needed vs now). The wood above 12Ã¢ÂÂ dia needs to go to the wood yards where they have heavier equipment for handling the large 18Ã¢ÂÂ-36Ã¢ÂÂ + dia wood.

It would be interesting to know if wood yards would take this large wood free since it cost to take this wood to private Land Fills. The City charges over a certain amount on the curb per month. The attach load is probably within the City Free Pick-up since there is no brush.

I'm getting tired just looking at that curb. Every single piece of that would require too much work to cut for my stove. And the Defiant takes a 24" log. About 20 yrs ago, I limited my daily chainsaw use to a single tank of mix.

Depends on how good Pecan wood is for BBQ! But I think the local rotisserie place down the road uses apple wood.

A couple of people on Texas BBQ forum said they preferred pecan to mesquite.

We are building a kitchen and have all natural cherry cabinets, and considering things such as white/gray marble, soapstone, and Fusion quartzite, so not afraid of light or dark, or heavily veined vibrant colors. But the proposed quartzite in the original post, in my opinion, doesn't belong in a domestic kitchen - maybe in a commercial setting, but it's too somber and depressing for me to look at for any period of time [like 5 minutes or more], and I think the owner will tire of it pretty quickly. But as an old Italian friend use to say, "Taste is taste said the cat...." [Fill in the blank] Our island will be a 4 by 8 edge grain Boos butcher block, 2 ¼ inches thick, and from my experience it goes with most anything [not so end grain, which is too busy, less stable, not available in as large a size, and fights the counters and cabinets for attention], Hard to beat the manufacturer or quality of the countertop, and NOT "very expensive," even in that thickness. It is being delivered on site at a cost of about $65 per sq. ft., but installation is almost free by comparison to anything but laminate - it's an easy DIY project for a capable woodworker or any finish carpenter. The biggest hassle will be finding 4 strong backs to carry it into the house. :)

from what I am seeing in the photos you posted you currently have a more modern dining set and an industrial light fixture- my concern is adding a chocolate brown reclining set to the mix. I know I have not seen a photo, but I have never seen a reclining sofa that does not look traditional and a bit chunky in style, which I do not think flows with the rest of the space. I do recommend you go with an area rug to anchor the new sofa and coffee and end tables. I cannot tell you if you should get glass or wood because I would need to see the sofa and furniture first, but purchase an area rug that is large enough to put under the front feet of all of the furniture in the family room.

It's pretty wood but if it's too much for you, you're pretty limited to painting it, which would look great, too. You could paint the walls and leave the ceiling wood, or paint the walls and ceiling, leaving the beams wood. Or paint the whole ceiling and leave the walls wood. A much bigger job would be to strip it all and stain it a lighter/different color, if you want to keep the wood showing. It would still be a LOT of wood.

Here’s the deal. Logs are a little different from other building materials. Even dimensional lumber like stud 2x4s can be painted. The difference is that logs contain moisture. Quite a bit of moisture in fact. You see, logs are much thicker than dimensional lumber. And they contain the full tree, not just a cross section like most lumber. So these logs start out with a lot of moisture in them. Giving them a year to dry out is great, but it doesn’t get rid of all the moisture. Plus, there’s a certain amount of moisture that will always stay in the logs. Hell I have used Apple , Hickory and Beechnut in my Smoker and would love to have ample supply of Pecan but rather limited here in the great White North ! Nice Road side picking Loger , you had better have that Son in Law give you a hand with those larger slabs lol .

I find good flavors from many hard woods. Hickory, Pecan, Mesquite certain Oaks (Live Oak and Black Jack) have been the favorites and plentiful in North TX. All seasoned a year IMO but my best known BBQ Business uses Green Hickory for flavor and gas for heat.

IÃ¢ÂÂm past wanting or collecting large wood period, Ewalk, with help or not due to the recovery time. LOL! Attach is one of my favorite loads of 4Ã¢ÂÂ- 12Ã¢ÂÂ dia logs (electric sawing at home) blocks vs miles from home. What is a Rule Of Thumbs of a load vs overloading my stock 07 SR5 Toyota 4 Runner? I have had 12 blocks (1200 lbs with help) in it that I felt looked OK with most in front of the axle (blocks vs miles) but I feel my cargo capacity is 1,000 lbs. Lazy Me! I have a utility trailer with heavy springs/axle I hate to use unless I know itÃ¢ÂÂs needed X 1/2 -3/4 cord.
