How are the JD GX 255, GT235 and GX335???
Comments (35)If you're looking for a REALLY good deal, here it is: Scotts S2048 Look closely, it's a 1st cousin of the GT235, painted reddish-orange. For that reason, it will sell for a fraction of its actual value. This tractor will take a tiller, sleeve hitch, or any other ground-engaging attachment the GT series would use. There are only two minor differences that I know of: no zerks on the spindles, a tuff-torq K-62 vice K-71 transaxle, and rumors of a sligthly lighter weight LX style frame (not confirmed). The K-62 in on the border between ground-engaging and lawn tractor service, but it does have the upgraded 1" axles of the K-71, and as you can tell by the two holes drilled at the top of the back plate, this IS a garden tractor, intended by John Deere to be used with a sleeve hitch. Not sure where upstate your are, but this is in Connecticut, worth the drive. Comments (1)Deere schematics are hard to find unless you want to pay for them. (I don't) There's a possibility that the seat switch MIGHT control the electric PTO. Try sitting straighter, more upright or whatever it takes to put more weight on the seat and see if that makes a difference....See MoreJohn Deere X300 RIO Switch
Comments (5)It sounds like maybe you could just replace the switch with a 2 way one, where it would stay in the disengaged position once you put it there My Kubota came with a push buttion RIO override which blinks red when it's 'engaged' - It's become automatic for me now to push the switch as soon as I engage the blades or else the engine dies the first time I try to back up. The fact that I hit the switch automatically every time completely negates any 'benefit' of it, but having one on the dash still protects Kubota from ridiculous lawsuits I suppose . . . . they are what made all of us have to put up with these pain in the ass switches in the first place My opinion on the switches is that it's another attempt by the government (the courts actually) to try to legislate common sense - I've owned machines for 30+ years with no RIO 'safety' gear and never had a problem . . . . because I use a minimum of common sense if there's anyone but me in the yard when I'm mowing - I'm actually much more worried about the machine throwing a stone or something out of the chute than I am about backing over anyone Don...See MoreGT 235--Starting problem; no cranking, just buzzing
Comments (5)Reviving this thread a bit as my grass continues to grow unchecked... I finally ended up having the local JD dealer (JD Equipment in Columbus--I like 'em) come by and pick the thing up. After digging into it, they say the stator is putting out too much current, and that it fried the voltage regulator and the battery. They're going to replace the stator, the VR and battery and then see where we are. I'm knowledgeable about a lot of stuff (including DIY stuff) but small engine repair isn't one of my strong suits so I'm trusting them on this one. I'm hoping that's the end of it and it didn't fry the starter and solenoid as well, but we'll see. For those reading this, any guess on whether this will have also damaged the starter and/or solenoid?...See More- 17 years ago
