That was the 1st thing I tried nothing was jamed or sticky. This is a wierld set-up a plate and spring heats up at the muffer and the spring opens wide open making it impossible to start even if the engine hot and it does not close completly when the engine is cold. I am thinking of adding a manul cable to operate the choke or a primer bulb at the carburator. It is also strange Kohler does not show this on thier service maual.

Put some light lube on the starter bendix shaft and see if it helps. Don't use grease or heavy oil.

My Kohler SV 740 begain running intermittently on the lleft cylinder first, then finally failed. A few days later while troubleshooting, running on one cylinder, the right cylinder failed. Checking for ignition, i had no spark at all on either cylinder. Thought it might be coils, although unlikely that both would fail together. Purchased replacement coils (CDI) installed, gapped at .010, still no spark. Tried 3 other gap settings, no spark. Checked kill wire, other links, etc. All OK. Is it possible that the flywheel magnet is at fault ? Rare I guess, but is it possible ? Any thoughts ?

Approach it backwards? Ask Kohler which Mfg. typically uses these engines, then try to download a manual showing a wiring diagram. e.g. On Craftsman there's a wiring diagram with color codes for wires going into connectors on the engine side and the "tractor side." Probably easier to get a "four pin" connector and remove the engine connector and install the new one. Worst case, put in a terminal block. Easy enough to follow the wiring to determine what goes where. e.g. If a red wire leaves the regulator, it's not going to change color in the wiring harness, etc. Make sure you incorporate a fuse in the one I just mentioned, that's always supplied by the tractor, etc. Mfg. Also, if you are successful getting a matching connector with wiring harness, it'll probably be too long or short and you'll end up doing "surgery" anyway. Good luck, Ev
