separating satellite rose

I have a climber with an attached (root) clone about a foot away. The satellite plant has about a half dozen 6-8 ft. canes. I dug down and exposed the root last year to move it. However, I didn't see a lot of roots coming from the satellite plant. I think it gets most of its nourishment from the main rose. I did move another bush that was further away and had a few roots. I didn't prune it and other than the leaves wilting a little; I think it made it through the winter. The remaining plant needs to be moved and I would like it to survive. What are the odds of it developing its own root system if I separate it from the main plant?
