My new pot ghetto isn't looking too good

I planted my 3 new roses in pots about 2-3 weeks ago. I put them in huge pots. I used dirt that I bought from Northhaven nursery that was specifically for roses. I then spread a thin layer (about 1 inch) of manure on top once they were planted. Now I have a lot of yellow leaves and no new growth yet. These were very small plants, only about 5 inches tall, when I got them and planted them. Did I do something wrong? What causes the yellow leaves? Should I fertilize them with rose tone? Someone please help. I have to save these or my husband will not be happy! He hates it when I buy plants and they die. He just sees it as throwing our money away. Ohhhh, I wish he had a love for plants like I do!
