Are the infamous HFGH made by One Stop Gardens?

I just notice the great price on the 10 x 12', and was hoping they replaced the HFGH with this new brand of quality?

I know wishful thinking but had to ask. Thanks.

Everything I have seen seems to indicate that One Stop Gardens is just a brand owned by Harbor Freight, maker (or at least importer) of the infamous 10' x 12' HFGH :-).

I remember those days. What wonderful fun! For me the mad buying of roses was a stage, though certainly one that lasted many years. I tend to do that with all my hobbies -- lots of fabric when I sew, lots of wool when I knit, lots of plants when I garden. By definition we enthusiasts are nothing if not enthusiastic. The one that has lasted all my life long is books. These days I have been going through a process of deleting roses. I saw clearly that I had too many for me, not so much because of the space (I could have squeezed in even more), but for the limits of time and the water I could give them. Some people never run into their limits but others of us do. I am content, actually even relieved with this new situation. I do still have a few roses on order (all but one long standing) and places set aside for them. However I suspect a few more will go over the next 2 or 3 years. I have my eye on a short list. Will I ever buy another rose? Probably, but I do believe my days of wholesale acquisition are done, at least until the time comes that I create new garden somewhere else. I do not anticipate that happening anytime soon. In the interests of full disclosure I should mention that I have planted a lot of trees this past year..... It's really about the pleasure your garden brings you rather than the number of roses you grow. I'll bet you already knew that. I wish you much joy in the garden! To Blaze of glory: I use redwood micro bark as a mulch, now that I dumped my lawn. Redwood microbark is cheap when I buy a big amount. Kelloggs amend looks like tiny bark pieces. I emailed Al to ask about substitutes in the mix, but I did not hear back. I was able to get the gravel at price I am happy with but as for the tur face and the fir bark, I have not worked out a price I am happy with yet. I want to do some tests with containers for plants to see if the gritty mix will work. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/contain/msg0519004127574.html?19 Google words like gritty mix failure if you can't see the thread, and it should come up on top I think the problem here, (I hope you can see the photo) the gritty was too big, not screened enough. The pigeon grit could have lime in it. I bought a bonsai mix granite. I was going to use chicken grit but it was made of limestone not granite. Bonsais cost a huge amount of money so if the eBay seller was selling limestone and not granite the negative feed back from angry bonsai growers would put him out of business. The reptile bark was the wrong kind of bark, it was not fir or it was not really bark. He or she did not skimp on the tur face by using oil dri, so that can't be the problem. I think if one cheats on the ingredients you can end up with a disaster. It may be possible to cheat, but I am doing a lot of thinking it over before I start. It would be bad to buy cheaper ingredients and have a failure then go out and buy the right ingredients. That would cost more than doing it right the first time. Someone should create a cheater's guild to the mixes. I have not spend enough time working with containers to be an expert.

Morz8 - I need to get myself a pair of hip boots! I never thought of that. I'm covered in mud all the time and I am sick of mud stained knees. I've tried kneeling on cardboard, plastic bags, placemats... but I still get muddy. Today the rain stopped for a while and it was only misting. Although it was only 46 degrees, the wind wasn't blowing for the first time in days. So I put on my rain coat and went outside. With all the rain in the forecast, I figure this is a great time to do some transplanting. I'm a fiddler. I am compelled to move my plants around from year to year. I feel comforted knowing the temps will be low and the plants will have plenty of water while trying to re-root. I moved Goldstrum Rudbeckia sown last year to a sunnier spot. I didn't get any flowers last year so this year I'm looking forward to them. I transplanted Shasta Daisies sown a few years ago. I also moved a whole bunch of ajuga. My backyard is so water logged the ajuga was under 2 inches of water. That stuff is tough! I dug up and divided hosta. Last, I moved some Asiatic lilies too.

I have such admiration for those that can create something like that. I don't have the patience or the time to even try it. I envision severed fingers and such *thinking back on my high school industrial arts classes* I am debating on the color. I originally thought about the alabaster - creamy ivory, but now I am leaning towards the natural. Also...new bed = new paint color. I am going to paint the bedroom. I will definitely take pictures. I've had a 10x12 HFGH for four years and for the price (~$650), my experience is that the quality is excellent. Essentially all of the pieces fit. Actually I'm impressed by the design, though I did make a few modifications. I agree however that it's not a kit for the person who is totally lacking in construction skills.

Note that I'm an old man with minimal building experience and I fabricated the unit with no help, so the kit design can't be too bad.

I think the HFGH has been made "infamous" by folks who located the greenhouse in bad locations, e.g., too exposed, or who really didn't have the needed experience, or whose expectations were unrealistic. I will admit that I'm not impressed by the vent opener.

My 10x12 HFGH has been up for four years as well. Regular readers here know I'm a fan of these, because I think they're a great value for the price. I gathered lots of info from this forum about modifying the kit (using inexpensive materials) to improve the strength in high winds, and we've had no problems. Those modifications are discussed in more detail in my blog, here.

I was disappointed to find that the Harbor Freight polycarbonate panels will (apparently) only last about four years in my intense sun climate. I'm replacing most of mine soon, because of small holes, brittleness, and yellowing. However, there are many HFGH owners here who post they have not experienced this problem, so there may be variability in the manufacturing quality of the panels. Even with this problem, I'd buy and build one again because of the value, since because we were willing to put in a bit of time to make a few changes for the better. It has allowed me to learn about having a greenhouse without breaking the bank.

I don't like the roof vents; in my strong winds, they tended to bang up and down a bit, even in the "closed" position. I finally wired mine shut, and don't use them (I have removable screens on the south side instead, for summer.) I've also heard folks say the Harbor Freight vent openers aren't a good value, and that it's best to spend more for another brand of vent opener.
