Wheel horse 310-8 wiring diagram

I took my wheel horse 310-8 apart to restore it after i rescued it from an older man's junk pile. It ran fine except for the fact that it needed a new fuel pump. Now after i put everything back together, installed a new fuel pump and a new key switch, it won't start unless you jump the solenoid.(and choke it to shut it off, the key switch has no control.) I was pretty sure i plugged it all in correctly, i would like to try to find a wiring diagram to make sure. i have looked and looked but cannot find a diagram. any advice would be greatly appreciated. (it is the right key switch for the tractor, the numbers from the old match the new.)

If you go to the toro site you can buy, or sometimes even download for free, the owners manual which should have the wiring diagram.

There are three pins to a solenoid. One goes to the battery (AKA the + lead) one goes to the starter (AKA the switched lead) and the third lead goes to the ignition switch (AKA the control lead).

The way it is supposed to work is that when 12 volts is applied to the control lead the solenoid reacts and closes the circuit from the + lead to the Switched lead until the voltage is removed from the control lead.

When you jump the solenoid which two leads are you jumping? If you are jumping the control lead to the + lead then the solenoid is good.

If you must cross the + to the switched lead then your solenoid is bad.

I have to jump the + lead to the switched lead(the one that goes to the starter). i downloaded the diagram and everything is the right way. the tractor still won't start with the key, but if i jump the solenoid(+ to Switched) and get the tractor started, i can shut it off with the key. Would this be a bad solenoid?

Happy New Year! Looking for some help from you veteran WH owners: I'm in the middle of a full frame-off restoration of the '89 312-8 I inherited. These machines are so well put together that most of my work will be paint, wiring and replacing some worn out bushings, etc. Question for you or any other WH owner out there: on the rear wheel mounting flanges there are two set-screws that hold each flange to the axle. The head of the bolt is square, then there is a hex nut between that and the flange casting. Is this a lock nut or is it welded on to the flange as part of the attachment? Before I go putting too much torque on these things and breaking something I'm trying to figure out how they're hitched together! I've got some play in one of the flanges I'd like to eliminate - maybe replace the woodruff key? Thoughts/tips/pointers, please?
