Craftsman with Kohler Command only runs for about 10 mins.
Comments (8)I have read here, and other places, that you should use only a Kohler fuel filter with Kohler engines! Some say not enough fuel is allowed to pass thru to supply the needs of the engine. That in itself would give you the problems you have. Is your engine a 2 cycle type? If not, maybe you should try some un-mixed fuel-just straight gasoline. And the oil viscosity must be what is called for in the engine, although, i never use a multi-viscosity in those hard working little engines. Of course, others here have their own ideas about that so i do not argue with them about it. A Kohler fuel filter is costlier than one you can buy at Home Depot, but you might try it....See MoreProblem with garden tractor fuel filter
Comments (34)I had a hard time starting my GT 5000 and when it finally did start it would only run with the chock all the way out. Every time I pushed in the choke it died. The gas tank was full as I keep it full at all times when I'm done using it. Anyway, I siphoned the gas out of the tank and then ran the engine until it stopped. I then put in about a cup of gas and ran that out. I did this about three time and the engine began to run normal without the choke pulled out. I then put in a gallon of gas and drove it until it ran out. I then refilled the tank and it is running fine. My question is: Did I have a bad batch of gas? It was a couple of months old. Or do I need to change the fuel filter? I have a total of 22 hours running time on the engine since new with the original filter. its a 2005 model. Is it better to run the gas tank dry before storing the tractor for lets say 2 or three months or maybe longer? Thanks for any advice....See MoreCraftsman GT5000 Fuel Problem?
Comments (13)I can't imagine a left turn leaning the mower over so far as to affect the carb. I'm still thinking intermittent wiring. Try- wiggling the PTO knob during both "flat" and the problematic" mowing to see if something "different happens. Check the plug on the Operator Presence Relay for tightness. The relay looks like this- It'll have terminals marked 30, 85, 86, 87 & 87A. The GREEN wire to terminal 85 is the suspect one. It goes from the ignition switch, "through" the seat switch and to the relay. Also make sure the black wire(s) from 30 & 86 have a good ground. That relay is known as a "Bosch" relay and is very common. Car Stereo stores use it for high powered AMPS. Also High/low beam switching on head lights. It's about a $4 part at an auto parts store and $16 at a "tractor" store. Also, recheck your "jumper" on the seat switch....See MoreFuel starvation problem Kohler Command 18HP
Comments (19)I have an ongoing similar situation. Kohler 23hp SV820. Runs fine for a few moments, dies, will not restart, splutters a few times if you choke it. I have disconnected from fuel pump, put a "squeeze bottle " on the carb inlet line. engine starts going dead, give the bottle a squeeze, no change. dribble fuel into the inlet air stream, engine picks up a few seconds, then repeat. I have had the fuel solenoid off, it works, & does not release before current is switched off. it does not get hot. I have had carb off engine, removed fuel bowl, float & needle valve.no visible damage or wear. I have blown through the inlet hose past the needle valve seat. I have blown out the jets. The orifice that the inlet solenoid needle seals in is not loose. I have verified spark. what next?...See Moreky.bart
