I downloaded the 8x10 manual from the Harbor Freight site, and compared it to my manual for the 10x12. All parts appear identical, except for differences in sizes and parts numbers, so my expectation would be you'd have similar design weaknesses that we've experienced in the 10x12. The manuals say the 10x12 is 123" tall, and the 8x10 is about 87" tall, so I guess the 8x10 is a bit less of a target for winds...but if I was building one, I'd probably do similar modifications like we did for my 10x12 (cautious me!) I can't find any explanation in the 8x10 manual for the white front panels shown on the Harbor Freight link you provided. You might call the HF technical assistance number, 1-800-444-3353 to ask. The 8x10 manual specifies "transparent polycarbonate sheets" just like the manual for my 10x12, same thickness (0.165) so I'm assuming they use the same 4mm twinwall polycarbonate, but knowing Harbor Freight, they may be supplying something else for the front panels...and then just not mentioning it in their website or manual. I'd ask. Did you find this two-part thread about some Harbor Freight owners experiencing early panel deterioriation problems? Since your climate is similar to mine (some days over 100°) I wanted to be sure. I still think a modified HFGH is a good deal, but some of us in hot climates may find our HFGH panels don't last as long as folks in cooler climates. The person who started this thread (Laserfan) is located in Texas. HFGH Polycarb Panels failing! Some folks supplement their panels with bubblewrap for extra insulation during the winter. I didn't caulk my panels because I like to be able to remove them, for replacing with screens, etc. I did use foam weatherstripping around the edge of each panel. That really slowed down the panel installation process, but I find it gives me a very good air seal around the panel edges. I think dropping the interior temps to 30° below outside temps will be a challenge, and I agree your only hope will be some kind of air conditioner or evaporative cooler, as you mentioned, and perhaps a misting system too. (The smaller the greenhouse, the harder it is to keep cool, and I think the extra height of the 10x12 probably helps a bit with my cooling challenge.) Hopefully someone else has some ideas on that point (I grow cacti so I'm not much help in that department.) ;-) Sheri

Hello all, I am not new to the garden web but I am new to this forum. I'm a fig farmer and that is all I grow. I am excited to hear about this coupon and can't wait till tomorrow to get the mag. I built a 6 x 8 greenhouse last summer. I wasn't as lucky as you guys getting a greenhouse for this price; however I am considering buying this greenhouse too. Anyway, I got mine from Sam's on sale for 599. After buying mine, I let it sit outside for about a month before I built it. Why? Well, I'm sorta a perfectionist. I wanted to make sure it was built right. The hardest part building a greenhouse is building the base. After researching the web nightly, I decided to sit mine down on pressure treated 4 x 4s. I had to put 10mil plastic between the greenhouse and the 4 x 4s. Why? Because the chemical in the lumber would eat up the aluminum in the greenhouse. I also laid down 2 layers of weed guard. I secured the base in the ground using rebar and large "U" nails. In the pic below, you can see the gray 5mil tarp that I doubled as a barrier. The date in the pic should say 2009, not 2008. I'll post a pic tomorrow of the finished product with trees inside. I have two of the HF Vent openers on order.(I am going to need at least five vent openers because venting heat daily is the most important factor for me) For the price I figured I had to try em, but if they do not work well, I did not want to order all of them at once. Although I probably won't have them installed before you order your greenhouse, I will be testing them (max extension, and lifting force) as soon as I get them, to determine if I will order more of them. I ALWAYS play nice (well, at least MOST of the time!!!) Okay, pictures have been taken - but not DL'd to computer yet (I'm surfing @ poolside via WiFi... Oh the SACRIFICES I have to make! ;-) I think I've been inspired to post an addendum to my "Garden Page" (you can get there from my webpage, linked below). I haven't done it yet, but I'll try to post my GH erection efforts "Step-By-Step." They won't be as good as conifers'/Dax's pictorial, but I'll do my best (Gotta "Give Back to the Community," right?!!) I think the wood-cutting is still a "hair" off, but the 'errors' will be put on the back-side (next to a fence, where no one will ever walk / have an opportunity to bend the aluminum base). Or maybe I'll add some skinny/lath/shim kinda material for the Too hot to dig up veggies right now, so I'll postpone that 'til early evening (or early tomorrow morning). I'll probably move my "boring observations" to the webpage (When I start it!). I'll just make note, on here, when I post updates - so I won't bore everyone with my long-winded commentary!!! Of course, I'm *sure* I'll have more questions as I go through this - and I *will* post those questions here! And I just thought of another Q: Should I paint the RW base before I assemble it? If so, white (for reflective qualities)? Or black (for heat-sinking)??? Or should I just hold off on that altogether (bearing in mind that it'll be easier to paint BEFORE I assemble it)???
