Craftsman Lawnmower Won't Stay Running Part 2
Comments (69)Tecumseh with plastic bowl - if it is flooding, at the bottom of the bowl on the side is a screw. Remove that and inside is a plastic piece, this meters the flow of fuel and if missing can explain flooding. Also carb is extruded aluminum and there is a small hole drilled in it for the bowl to breath, that could be the other cause. Lastly dirt is holding the carb needle open- hold the carb bowl in your hand off the carb and let the gas flow in and see if the bowl overflows while outside the carb. If it only runs for a sec, upon removing the screw from the bowl the plastic piece inside - get a drill and drill it just a hair larger - so far this personaly worked for me 3 for 3 of these. Do this after trying cleaning it out the same piece with a paperclip. Sorry all if parts of my post are a repeat. ihwall50- black smoke, too much gas from dirty air filter, try banging the filter on the street curb knocking dirt loose and try again. if it improves, get a new filter....See MoreTroy Bilt Pony Tiller
Comments (26)Gator, I feel your Pains! We are getting trees trimmed as we speak (two years overdue from the 7 year trimming pattern). The lack of trimming cost us two Computers, an Oven, Many Surge Protectors and lots of Small Unprotected AC Items due to two110 volt lines making contact. I’ll hope to get a few sticks of wood from the Red Oaks and Pecan trees (vs chipping all). I feel for my trees and neighbor's, they will look a mess then the trimmers finish. They will basically take the line side of the trees off. We over-planted on these small lots before the underground AC Service. In many cases they are adding 110/220 insulated lines due to the thick trees in the Old neighborhoods. Plus, all underground AC to most new constructions and some remodeled constructions. Comments (3)I finally received a follow-up today: The 800 # verified the trimmer was a 2-cycle and 50:1 mix was verified on-line. No oil check-drain-fill plug basically dictated 2-cycle and 50:1 mix sounds correct. The oil mix ratio not on the trimmer made it confusing. The gas cap did show a gas pump symbol. This week I saw a gas cap that showed the pump symbol and + which dictated 2-cycle to me. I'll follow up on missing the plus on the other cap. The link below will show a youtube of changing the oil in a 4-cycle trimmer that appeared as this one w/o the plug in the plate. I'll try to attach this 4-cycle as an attachment also. The trimmer was reported as running better but not the best. Since we d/n examine the carb internally and mainly the fuel screen after 10 plus years it could easily need cleaning or etc. Ill suggest: 1. Checking the spark arrest if it has the fine screen, mainly due to the 16:1 mix he was running. 2. 1 oz of carb cleaner in a fresh tank of fuel not to mention the carb has not been tuned. The fun turns into work when too many friends show-up w/o during my chores and w/n send follow-up info or pics. Too Much Of Their Time!!
