Unfortunately,Honda no longer offers riders in North America. Have a look at the higher end Simplicity, Snapper, John Deere etc. After the Honda you will be disappointed in anything less.

Well there are two brands I would look at if your replacing that Honda which would be John Deere or Simplcicity maybe even kubota. You may want to upgrade to a wider deck since you say you have been cutting several acres. Your honda in 1987 Had a MSRP of $2,889. Well since it looks like you just need a tractor to mow with and not any gardening tasks then I would suggest mayebe a Deere X300 series lawn Tractor Starting at $2,999 with the X300 that has a 17hp kawasaki engine and either a 38 or 42inch deck The X300 series goes up to the model X360 which has power steering and Hydraulic lift and up to a 54inch deck with a 22hp Kawasaki engine the 48inch dek is standard on the X360 and it has a MSRP of $5,099 with 48inch deck. There is also Simplicity Broadmoor Lawn tractor that range from 18hp to 20hp Briggs& stratton engines with 38,44 and 50inch mowing decks and Range in price from $4,300 to $4,950. Then there is the Kuboata T-series lawn tractors that range in HP from a 18hp 1cylinder Kohler to a 23hp VTiwn Kohler and in decks sizes 40,42&48inch mowing decks and from a MSRP price range from $3,350 to $4,850 PersonallY I own 3 John Deere's, 4 Cub Cadets, 2 Simplcities,1 White and 1 ingersoll all but two are Garden tractors. Since you say your have Sevral trees and obsticles on the property I would look at either a John Deere X304 or a X324 both Tractors are All wheel steer avaliable with either a 42inch or 48inch mowing deck. In the mid 1990's John Deere actually produce the Honda Lawn tractors on the Deere LX series frames for Honda. Now you 3813 was shaft driven if I am correct. The least exspencive tractor you will find with shaft drive is a Cub Cadet mid level GT called a 2542 with a starting price of a MSRP of $3,849 with the current sale price of $3,499. But since it looks like you just want a Lawn tractor the Top 3 I mention Deere,Simplicity and Kubota have the best quality in the current Lawn tractor market. If you were going to look a Garden tractors as well I would mention Ingersoll and Cub Cadet as other Tractor to consider. Because the Ingersoll Garden tractor are built like Tanks. The design hasn't change much since the early 1960's. Thanks a bunch for the input. The insurance adjuster should show up this week to look over the mess. Hopefully, I can prove my position that I lost a quality piece of equipment and not a low end mower. Granted the deck was narrow and the mower only 13 hp, but the mower was quality. I am hoping to be successful in convincing them that a John Deere, Simplicity, or the Kubota would be the comparable line. Depending on what the insurance will allow I might be able to add to the adjustment and get a machine a little above and possibly a garden tractor. What I really liked about the Honda was the two cylinder liquid cooled engine. My wife liked the mower also. Very easy for her to operate.

IN the Deere line for A new Machine you would have to go up to the X520 Garden tractor to get a liquid cooled unless you go the used deere route and get a LX279. In the Kubota line you would have to go up to a GR series to get LC in the Simplicities you would have to go to the Leagacy XL series to get LC. The JD X520 has a Msrp of $6,659 with a 54inch mowing deck. The first kubota with LC is a GR Which is $7,850 called a graden tractor but really a Lawn tractor with 4wd and 4ws because it really is for snow removal and lawn care. not for any gardening as far a tiller or sleeve hitch implements which it cannot use ecept for after market tiller that don't requier a sleeve hitch or 3 point. Kubota also make a G series GT which is a full fleged GT cost about $8,224. A simplicity leagacy XL with a LC engine will run you $9,295 for just the tractor plus $1,900 for a 54inch deck. The Kubota and the Simplicity with LC engine compare more to the JD X700 GT series. But the mid level GT the X520 is the least expensve tractor with LC engine.

I'm not exactly sure how replacement value insurance works , but for what it's worth a Honda dealer told me (4 years ago) that if they still made those liquid cooled machines and sold them here they'd cost 7K or more . If the insurance company paid that much , for two acres with a lot of trees I'd be looking at a ZTR , brands like Scag and Yazoo Kees offer them with Honda engines - air cooled though . I replaced my 1985 3813 with a Simplicity Broadmoor in 2005 ( 18 horse v twin Briggs Vanguard -made by Daihatsu) and it's been a reliable , smooth running , quiet machine with stretch out comfort that made the 3813 seem like a child's toy by comparison .
