I totally agree. Euro Desert Roses is an excellent place to do business. You can get roses there not available from any other US source. Cliff is knowledgeable and happy to assist you with questions. I have dealt with him 3 or 4 times and have always been very happy with the roses he sends.

And to repeat what I posted on the other forum--EuroDesert packaging is superb! The roses are carefully wrapped and protected with tiny stakes and, hallelujah, the box is easy to open and the plants easy to extract. (So much better than the wrestling match I sometimes have with shipped roses.)

How did you guys find out about the roses that you picked? a lot of the ones on his site are rare enough that I don't see them talked about much... so I do a search,... but I'm unclear on whether they'd do well for me or not.
Did you just pic based on what you thought was pretty and hope it would work out? or did ED suggest ones for you...? :)

Amen! Cliff sent me five of the most beautiful roses, all totally spot free, vigorous, four in bud! Blue for You, MY WORD! What a COLOR! Iris Webb is opening now. Werner von Blon opened a cluster of mauvy red double blooms. Purple Skyliner appears dark from the bud color. Grace Note is growing, but no flowers yet. NOT a complaint! They were all roses I wanted and arrived in perfect shape, exactly when he said to expect them to.

You can email him and he'll give you all the information he can. You have to be patient, though. He's pretty much a one man operation these days, which is a very scary thought!

He has THE most amazing collection of roses in the country. No joke. He could probably continue introducing what he already has for quite a few years, without needing to import new ones.

rosezeek, I agree with you. I'm glad you got Blue For you. By the time I tried to order, it was already sold out. I have bought bunches of roses from Cliff this year. The roses are ingeniously packaged and easy to take out of the boxes. I love Hybrid Perpetuals and Cliff has some of the rarest ones that you cannot get anywhere else except maybe in Europe. The new issue of Rosa Mundi has a really nice profile of his nursery. Eurodesert is having an open house on 5/9 which I am really looking forward to.

I ordered some roses from him this year, and I am very pleased with all that I got. They seem to be coming along very well. I will definitely order more from him in the future.

I ordered some roses from him also. I was only expecting to order only 2 or 3, but when I saw his new list that had some of the ones I have been wanting from Europe for some time, you know what happened to that 2 or 3. It suddenly became 10. They have been planted and appear to be okay. My only concern is that since a number of the varieties I got were bred for British/cool, maritime conditions, I don't know if they will do well here. Some do, some don't.

An anonymous donor just ordered 6 HTs for the Heritage Rose Garden from Cliff. These are HTs that no one else in the US sells. I'd like to encourage others to help both Cliff and the Heritage Rose Garden in this manner. Instructions for doing that can be found here:

Aimee, picking wasn't too hard. First I looked at what varieties that I can grow. The best ones, I hope, I found on Cliff's last two newsletters. Btw, he has a very nice newsletter, you can keep track of what's going on at the nursery through it and Cliff also offers tips.

The ones that I'm most looking forward to are Rosarian Gregg Lowery, Night Sky, Cheeky Monkey, Mrs. Robinson and Lynnie. I don't have (and haven't been enamored of) singles but I think cute, small bushes with bright saturated colors that can be tucked in here and there as a surprise will be just the right way to start. For these, Aimee, you can't go too wrong with a floribunda, polyantha, china, or mini. Do you know yet if you have a problem with mildew? I would hope not in Canyon Country. I'm good at our mountain place so if something doesn't work out down below, I can always bring it up.

Jill, that's an excellent idea for all. I was just mentioning to another forum member that although I've been on a buying binge this year for reasons mentioned elsewhere, I do think trying to keep these nursery treasures in business is a good use of my 'pin' money as my aunt would say as well as some of my charitable funds. However, in my case charity really has begun at home since I've bought them all for myself (blush).

Jill, can you tell someone who would like to donate roses to the rose garden how to find roses that you actually would want to plant rather than have them donated to a charity auction, if you even do that???

Has anyone been to the display garden? I'm hoping this will give me a better idea of placing my new bands, especially the ones that will get big.
