I'll admit it... I'm a price shopper when it comes to riding mowers. The lower-line brands made by MTD (Sears, Troy Bilt, Bolens, Toro, Huskee, etc etc) all seem to have a 6 or 7 speed "shift on the go" transmission. My question is what is the reliability on this transmission, and more specifically does the gear selector switch hold up with repeated use? That seems like it might be the weak point in the system. All of my previous tractors were 5 or 6 speed manual gear models, so I'm wondering if this MTD system works okay. I'm looking at the Sears 19.5hp/42" LTS2000 or similar 42" models from the various MTD brands. Any comments on the lower-end models appreciated.
