Planning an English Rose Garden Trip

Hi -

Jannorcal (Janelle) and I are planning two weeks in England. We'll be leaving June 11th, and plan to focus on gardens. I've sent Jon an email (I hope), and have contacted the few other English acquaintances that I have. We'd appreciate any suggestions of not-to-be-missed gardens, places to stay, and other advice.

We have a list of great gardens that we are thinking of going to - the usual, places like Mottisfont and Sissinghurst and Kiftsgate and Hidcote, along with Kew and probably Peter Beales and David Austin's places. I'd love to get up to Castle Howard but don't know if that's too much out of the way. I also am afraid that too many Great Estates will just wear us out. I always enjoy seeing less well-known places, and talking to kindred gardeners. Our main interest is old roses, but we both are avid gardeners who love plants of all kinds.

So, any suggestions about how to plan this itinerary would be appreciated. Thanks!

Anita
