Cold weather - very stuck throttle cable.

Hi all ...

I have a small Sears Rear motor rider (ride-n-mulch).

I use it for everything except mowing the lawn (towing firewood mostly this time of year).

I was outside the other day and tried to start it up and noticed the throttle cable was very difficult to move... (and it was well below freezing - roughly 15-20 degrees).

Long story short - the end of the throttle cable ( which sits within the steering column) has popped off the end of the throttle control handle - and of course its too cold (for me) to fool around once its well below freezing.

But I do need to get this machine operational soon (need another trailer of wood), and im looking for some ideas to deal with that cable ...

Are any of you (in the cold climates) lubricating those cables ? I was initially thinking that the little bit of oil on the cable is making it very difficult to move. But I recognize a small potential for ice as well.

Perhaps a fine machine oil ? any other suggestions ?

Thanks for your time - Dave
