Ticking GX 345

Hi,

I ran my GX 345 for the first time in a month to push back some banks remaining from the truck. This unit is a 2005 GX 345 with a Kawasaki 20hp Liquid cooled engine. The day I ran it the temp was at or below 0 degrees. It started very cold and took several minutes to warm up. I ran it for about twenty minutes and it seems normal. When I went to put it back in the barn, I brought it back to idle and noticed a ticking sound that seemed to come from the left side of the engine, likly under the OHV cover. Performance, smell and exhaust color seemed normal.

I don't need it for daily snow removal and won't jump onto diginosing this sound until the temp rises slightly, but I thought I would ask if any experts have any sugestions before looking into this. I should mention this unit has only 160 hours and has been maintained to the letter. I will probably start with a compression check first. Thanks for any sugestions.
