HFGH Modification: 10ft. roof height to 8ft. roof height.

The city of long beach requires a building permit to build the HFGH because it is over 8 ft tall. Long Beach doesn't have a "greenhouse" code so they use "accessory structure" code. The minimum they will value it at is $4000 which makes the building permit cost $514. Plus the inspector would need to come out and look at your foundation and what the manufacturer recommends (since this is unusual) and then decide on what changes if any need to be done. I wasn't having any of that, so I decided to shorten the roof to 8ft. I shortened all the rafters, shortened the front and rear gable support struts, Cut the four gable support corner braces from a 33.5 deg. angle to a 10.5 deg. angle, and cut all the roof panels and gable panels (except the window vents) to fit the new dimensions. It was a bit of work but I'd do it again. Bonus: the handles for opening and closing the windows can now be reached without needing a step stool.
