keeping roses in plastic bag

I was given some rose bushes for my birthday this past week. I have always bought rose bushes that were already in pots. But these roses have the plastic bags around the roots. I didn't want to plant them yet as we are expected to get a freeze this week and I was worried it would kill newly planted roses. Is there anything I need to do to keep them healthy in the bags while I wait for the freeze to be over with?

Also I haven't planted roses in many yrs. All the ones I planted yrs ago are doing wonderful. But honestly I have forgotten exactly what I did it has been so many yrs. I was thinking I added a box of something to the soil when I planted them. But I can't find a box of anything that looks familiar. Any hits to make sure they grow well would be appreciated.
