Identify Houseplant

Bought this houseplant at the garden store about 6 months ago. Since then, it's grown about 2-3 inches. This makes it 9 inches tall now, and the blades are about .5 inches wide. Recently transplanted it and the roots were very shallow. Maybe each blade had its own root. Does anyone know what type of plant this is... Maybe a type of grass? If so, what type of grass?

If those leaves that are "splitting" are in the same clump then it looks more like a palm (or palm cluster)

Exactly what I thought, that it looks like a palm.

Could it be a whole pile of baby palms growing from seed??

The bugs are mostly seen crawling, not flying, yet can jump when disturbed. My preliminary thoughts were thrips, aphids, or springtails. Also, they are normally found in the soil/pot, not on the plant itself. I'm reluctant to begin using a systemic routine, however that's slowly becoming a preferred route.

Awesome thanks everyone. It's got to be a bunch of baby Dypsis lutescens. Does anyone have any predictions about what these numerous palm seeds will grow to become with so many growing together? Will it still have normal growth or be stunted? Maybe try to separate some?

(In the spring,) I would separate anything with that many individuals so close together.

Dypsis lutescens. They throw a bunch of seeds in a pot and grow them up and sell them that way. Eventually, the larger plants will form trunks and will also send up pups and offshoots. It makes a nice tolerant houseplant for many years (keep away from hot air registers or it will brown). Eventually it gets too large for the house though, like most palms.

I don't think you'd have room for too many pots of these! LOL!

I would let it grow as it does and then maybe trim out the smallest ones. Let the largest ones grow. Not worth separating in my opinion. I use a scissors to 'prune' out runts at ground level. Or try to pull them to thin if you want.

My first thought was that it's a clump of the extremely common parlor palm, Chamaedorea elegans. The seeds of this palm are sown in plug flats and the whole plug with all the subsequent seedlings is transplanted for the wholesale or retail market.

Parlor palm is probably the most commonly used palm for dish gardens.
