Then move low high lever to speed desired by transmission gears already turn an easy shift can be performed. If lever still hard to move go to pivot on low high speed lever with 3/4 open wrench move nut counter clock wise half turn if this don't loosen level. Take all way off remove lever clean all parts rust is about freeze up pivot point. This pivot point is friction to hold lever in gear there no other detentes in transmission. You should be able to shift with little finger and friction tighten right hold in gear. Don't grease pivot and watch assy. and dis assy closely so parts be right place so friction work. Center level that lifts engine lube with PB Blaster lube pins engine slides up and down on PB Blaster other solvent work as well. It take this about 3 times year make shifting easy for me....See MoreTroy Bilt Horse Drive Belts
Comments (6)Well, i bought my belts at a local store that has or will order new matching belts for tillers, or anything else. They sell lots of parts, and will order anything i need! Check in your area--there must be someplace where you can buy parts, belts, etc. But not Home Depot, Lowes, or any place like that! And, automotive belts will not last as long as the kind used in mowers and tillers. As for replacing the double belts, its a bit tricky, but not that tricky! Here's how to do it: Move the clutch handle to loosen tension on the belts. Then, first thing, take forward belt off lower front pulley, and rear belt off rear upper and lower pulleys, and slip it out. Then remove front belt. To install the new belts: Hang front belt over the front upper pulley, but not the lower one. Slip the rear belt in under the front and into the rear lower pulley, then install it in the top rear pulley. Then slip the front belt over the lower front pulley, and its done. you may have to adjust the sliding block, but that isn't too hard to do. It might not let the handle stay in position if its out of adjustment. HTH: Rusty Jones...See MoreTroy Bilt WorkHorse Tiller 8hp 319cc
Comments (3)Thanks baymee, I have changed the fuel line and filter already and still had the same problem, so basically you're suggesting that I should check the gas caps vent to see if it's blocked up.... And yes I can make it about 60-80 feet before it shuts off and then crank it right back up and do the same distance over again. I'll check the cap and hopefully that will solve it. If anybody else has any suggestions or advice on what to try, I'd greatly appreciate it. Oh, and I know there is to be 2 rods on the back of the governor plate and 1 of them is missing, I looked at a 12HP similar to mine and it shows that I am missing a rod, I just don't know which one....See MoreBelts for my ancient Troy Bilt Pony Tiller
