I've saved fruit many times from temps as low as 25/26/27 by going out in the very early morning hours between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM and spraying them down with water. It does help. A couple of things -- 1) bring the hoses inside somewhere they can't freeze. Even a little water will leave an ice plug in the hose, which is frustrating and problematic at 4:00 in the morning. 2) Be sure to wear heavy, waterproof gloves with insulated gloves inside. Your hands will get cold fast, especially when wet. 3) Always get dressed. Don't go out in your pajamas and an overcoat like I did, then hide behind the compost pile for 20 minutes while the cops shine your yard looking for burglars because some neighbor called the police about the strange goings-on in your yard at 4:00 in the morning! :=)

I don't even remember if I was eNotified of your last response, but I browsed back here, due to wanting to reference this past post. ...OK, by now I've been healed from the poison ivy (no thanks to the AMA) - by self-helping ...(applied wound-honey Atop Basic-Calamine on the worst palm-burns, topped with Duct-tape, and other spreadable-strategies for the rest of my arms & legs. Also Oolong & hibiscus tea drinking plus squeezing/rubbing the juice of bags on hands/wrists. Regarding PVC: I don't think I can drag an 8' long PVC pipe onto local buses. So my question is: Can I easily tote a bunch of shorter lengths via bus system, and then connect them? I don't have a staple gun to staple plastic to wood (not that I have the correct lumber, or know how to tote that home either). Note that by now, after all the hard hard work clearing the grass, the brown-dirt area that you see in my pic. is already overgrown with tons of grass. So I got to thinking about this other possible option: POSSIBLE SELF-WATERING PALLET+TARP OPTION: I have a wood pallet. So maybe I can use my reciprocating saw to saw off the wood from the underside, and then flip the pallet over, and lay it on one of those large blue tarps, then drape the tarp over the rims to create a self-watering trough? have you considered a Harbor Freight GH 6x8 go on sale for like $299 and you can get a 15% off coupon on ebay for $5 or less. I got my 10x12 HFGH on sale and used a 15% off coupon too for under $550... I'm sure you must have seen all the posts on this forum on these...and even though putting one together might be a challenge (no comments from the peanut gallery) you would at least be getting one in new condition..no telling what damage could occur when taking stuff apart...not to mention gas for driving several hundred miles? just a thought (I"m completely a novice here, but that's what my sentiment would be, I'm sure others will chime in too.

tom_n_6bzone & greenhouser, Thanks for the replies. ton_n_6bzone - I do dilute my Cloud Cover at 10:1. I've used it for about 5 years on plants outside the greenhouse. Last year we had some pretty chilly days (for my region) below freezing. I only lost 1 plant out of a thousand - mostly perennials. I attribute that to the early application of this product. In years where I spaced out and got to it too late, I lost many more. It always upsets me when I do that, as walking around with a sprayer is a lot easier, less expensive, and less work than buying plants and digging holes. As far as organic is concerned, that is very interesting. I don't apply any herbacides or pestacides in my yard. I wonder how nasty this stuff is? Greenhouser - I have quite an assortment of plants ranging from lavendar to sage to succulants, hydrangia (sp?), Euphorbia, etc. Everyone got sprayed, and everyone is happy. DG
