My Painted Daisy Seedlings Have Disappeared!!!!

This morning I went to see my painted daisy seedlings and to my (bad) surprise I discovered that some of the seedlings are missing! I can't understand what happened! I also have some california poppy seedlings that are growing in the same pot (which are too small to see) and some are missing too.

This is how my pot looks like with the seedlings of painted daisy in the middle of the pot:

And this is my pot without the biggest seedlings of painted daisy as I take the picture today!

I really feel so sorry, I sowed these seeds indoor in January only to see them disappear after 4 months. What am I supposed to do? I can't understand what is causing this loss. What precautions should I take?

Do you think I am still in time to sow painted daisy seeds again?

When I first read your post, I thought - slugs. That really doesn't seem probable though in your case. Do you think maybe birds would like it for a nest or something?

I have put a bird net on top of the pot, but still it doesn't work because the birds came and pulled them through the net. I have to go buy some stakes and elevate the net to at least one foot taller so the birds won't reach the seedlings with their disgusting beak!

I also thought they were slugs, but now I am more than sure they are nasty filthy birds!

My strawberries have disappeared?

I planted lavender and sage around the strawberry patch and for a day, all was good. I was keeping an eye on one particular ripening strawberry, since my memory is too bad to recall where all the ripening fruits are/were in the patch, and it disappeared. I noticed a tiny bunny sprinting up and down a gravel drive behind my fence, where the strawberries are, and thought - oh how cute. But then, I spotted the bunny IN the patch and watched it run through a gap in my fence. I have since closed the fence gap, I haven't SEEN a squirrel for days, but now my cherries are being consumed by rodent-like teeth.... IS IT HOPELESS?? The critters currently tip toe around my live trap. I had a big lab-mix who would chase all the buggers away, but in doing so, would destroy all the plants anyway. Now that she's passed, the varmints must be chatting with one another, spreading the word. I'm always teaching the kiddos to be one with nature but I am losing my patience... After all the frustrations of fruit growing this week, I STILL find Alex's photo SO adorable...

What's wrong with my painted daisy?

Okay, this is really weird. It's now one hour or so after I took that picture, still middle of the day, still the same temperature, still overcast. The plant has picked up completely. What the heck? No more droop, all flowers facing straight skyward. All I did was to poke around to soil under the mulch a little (not even near its roots) to see if things are too wet or too dry and to make sure the mulch isn't touching the crown of the plant. Everything was okay. I may have talked to the plant a bit in the process. Now it's happy again. Maybe this one ought to be renamed "Cranky Daisy".
