Gertrude Jekyll, Winchester Cathedral, and Tess of the D'urbervil

Well, I've always said I never met a David Austin I couldn't kill, but I'm trying again.

The descriptions of these roses give the height as varying from 3 feet to 8. I'm guessing I'm going to end up chopping off the canes every spring and starting them over, so the spot I'm thinking of planting them in is not very big.

I'd hate to find out I'm wrong. I already have a couple rose thugs that were supposed to be tender.

Go figure: Madame Plantier, with the noisette parentage, had the least cane loss of any of my roses, and much better than any of my other albas.

It is so big now it is blocking the view of the roses behind it, instead of them being the backdrop, like I imagined.

One of the pitfalls of growing roses you've only ever seen in books, I guess.

What do you think I can expect of these Austins, up north?
