That's more than twice the price of the aluminum frame double wall 6X8' HFGHs. I wonder why there's such a large price difference.

Part of the explanation could be the powder-coated frame, the fact that it's a little taller, and the length of the warranty compared to the HFGH. While the HFGH is a lot of greenhouse for the money, reading this forum also shows it has a lot of quality and fit problems. Whether this Costco one is better in that regard, I don't know.

Harbor Freight stuff is all made in China. That might explain the other part.

I am giving this greenhouse serious thought, and I would like advice or comments from those with more experience and knowledge than me (which means basically from anyone).

I haven't exactly researched this, but I have casually looked at small greenhouses for years now. Actually, for decades.

I realize the standard advice is to get a bigger one because that is what you will want later, but for several reasons, I think this size is good for me.

One question, and I realize this is a bit insane, is that I may have to move in a few years because my house might be condemned and demolished to make way for a transportation project. That means I might want to pick up and move the greenhouse. Do you think that it would be at all feasible to, say, have a person at each corner, lift it onto a large piece of plywood, and then lift the plywood onto a flat bed truck?

Second question is about vents. It looks like it has one roof vent. Is that sufficient? Can you add another roof or gable vent to this type of greenhouse?

I would be putting it on an existing asphalt surface. Other than making sure it is level, would there be any concerns with that?

The price is very attractive. Do you think this is a good deal or a buyer beware situation?

My thoughts:
1) I don't know how much it weighs, but, regardless, lifting it from the 4 corners could easily wrack the frame and/or cause joints to break or pop apart, and the panels to pop out. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Instead, I'd grit my teeth and spend the time needed to (at least partially) disassemble it, and then reassemble it at the new location.

2) For a greenhouse this size, that one, good-size vent window is probably adequate, but many of us use a fan to move the air around anyway. I suppose you could add another window as I suspect the manufacturer (Rion) would probably sell you the parts, but that could be a little pricey.

3) Possible concerns about having it on asphalt could be: the smell on a really hot day inside the greenhouse, and no drainage from spills. It's also usually a good idea to tether down a gtrrnhouse foundation some way in case of a violent windstorm, so you might want to figure out how to secure the base to the asphalt.

4) As far as buyer beware, I suspect you don't have to worry, given that Costco has a generous return policy, even on things like this. As I mentioned in my first post, I'm not associated with Costco, but I am a satisfied customer. I bought a different model greenhouse from them 3 years ago and have been very happy with it...and the price was about 1/2 of what I'd seen for the same model elsewhere.

Thanks for your thoughts, kudzu. I am still mulling things over and my more sensible side is winning at the moment. As much as I would love to buy a greenhouse this week, it would make a lot more sense to wait until I know if I will have to move.

My coldframe collasped recently, so I will have to replace it this spring if I don't get the gh, but I know I can pick that up and move it no problem.

I have a very similar greenhouse that I got last year from Costco. I LOVE IT. I started a ton of seedlings in Jan. I moved in a radiant heater to keep it above freezing on the cold nights. It normally stays around 5-6 degrees warmer than the outside at night time. And maybe even a little warmer with all the plants inside (I have probably 150+ plants inside right now.) I love it so much I wish I had two of them. I spend hours inside of it each day. It did however take two days to assemble. Putting in the panels was sort of tough. But once it was assembled on the level area of ground I dug 7" deep, I staked in the greenhouse then filled the inside and a 1 foot wide space around the perimeter with a 6" deep of pea gravel. I doubt it will ever blow away.
