Boy is Hoover smart! I'll have to remember that alfalfa is tasty. Mine decided to want to eat the Rose Tone I was putting down. It does smell slightly sweet. It didn't hurt anyone, but I wouldn't want them to chow down on it.

Wendy, I don't know how anyone can willingly hurt anything. It makes no sense except it gives little people a sense of power. I have 11 dogs, all but one was terribly abused and yet they love with open hearts. When I grow up I want to be like my dogs. :)

It's nice to have company when you are gardening. I love roses the best but admit that they are one of my big choices because the dogs usually leave them alone. They actually ATE my little azalea bush over the winter. Sigh...

That does have both blood meal and bone meal among its ingredients, doesn't it? I'd be surprised to find a dog who wouldn't find that tasty.

Thankfully our dog doesn't like to "help" much at all. She used to dig once in awhile when our neighbor would give her a biscuit she didn't care much for. She'd bury them.

But my main "helpers" are those little grey rodents with the big bushy tails that love to plant black walnut and oak trees for me! They also make pinecone mulch for me, the sweet little devils.

I had the most wonderful pit bull named Nellie whom I adopted from the Humane Society where she had languished for three months because no one wanted a pit bull. She loved everyone and never touched my roses although at one time she did bury seven pairs of leather work gloves! Pit bulls are so misunderstood and suffer so much at the hand of man that it makes me want to cry. Treated well, they have the most wonderful personalities. Your little girl is so sweet. Unfortunately Nellie died at the age of eight, but she lives on in my heart.

Jane, you are a hero in my eyes. I must admit I am afraid of pitbulls. My ex did have a relative that kept them and they were protective but not agressive. She looks like a love and I admire you for giving her a home. I also am a animal lover. I have a rescued Cockatoo and two cats. What makes me cry and want to protect animals is that they are innocent. Mankind is not innocent.

It breaks my heart when I hear how cruel some folks can be to animals. Dogs are so used and often abused. What would humans do without assist dogs, companion dogs, security dogs, the list goes on and on, and they don't ask for much in return. Cats and squirrels are cute too!

My little fellow "Bailey" doesn't help much in the garden, he's better on the couch and guarding Teddy Bears.

I am well-supervised by 16 cats--up two since last month. (My father just died and everyone wanted the money and stuff, but no one wanted the cats who have been his companions since my mother died.) The cats not only keep my grounds chipmunk and vole free, but they check the quality of the holes I dig, the looseness of the soil in the beds, the freshness of the mulch. They also pose among the roses so that I will know if I've gotten the spacing and color schemes correct. And one of their most important jobs is to remind it it's getting past dinnertime.

My little orange guy is my constant shadow. His only complaint is that I run around too much outside. Better to curl up in a patio chair and just savor the day Mom! His second most preferred job besides supervising me is watching the coming's and going's of the neighbors and our resident jaybirds. This task is best done on the back of the sofa.

Love all your lovely babies. I had to show off mine. Jake (Golden Retriever) helps me dig holes for roses. I only have to start the hole and point in and say "Look what's in there" And he will dig and sniff several times and he gets more done than I can with a pick and shovel. And he looks soooo cute. Here is a pic of him guarding his basketball which he loves to play soccer with.

Oh Wendy Maximus is gorgeous! What breed is he?

Jake is my constant companion. He goes everywhere with me~except on the really hot days~actually sometimes I leave the motor running and the ac on for him. We adore him. He is a constant source of pleasure and I thank God for him.
He is more like the youngest child in the family. We do spoil him~As I'm sure all the pet parents here do. Junitta

Max(imus) is a Bernese Mountain Dog. We had another, Simon, but lost him in January :( Max is still moping around at times. And yes, he is extremely spoiled.

Ingrid, imagine a dog marked just like your Nellie with long hair. That's my Felco. The vet believes he is a pit bull/bird dog mix. He has the pit bull conformation and personality and the bird dog fur. We mostly keep him clipped, as his skin does not support all that fur well. He's sold me on pit bulls as a breed. I will get another when that day comes.

Wendy, Max is beyond beautiful. Makes me want to go out and get one just like him. I could stare at that face for hours.

lol! My pittie never wanted to dig much, but his little sister/new boss, who is a hound/bird dog of some kind, has dug traps all over the yard and encourages him in this mischief!

Simba liked to companion dig, I'd dig a hole for the roses and she'd dig a hole in the lawn. If only I'd thought to let her finish my hole. RIP Simba, you're dearly missed lawn holes and all.
