Looking for an Active Flower Forum?

I'm trying to identify a flower that I'm finding in my yard (pic included), but I've had no luck in finding it on any forums or websites. Some forums aren't as active as this one is, though. Any ideas?

The Perennial Forum is usually busier, but there seems to be a slight lull right now. Maybe vacation time? Still, lots of people read the forums who don't post and I'd expect you would get a response to identification questions. Especially if you put (pic included) in the subject line. There is also a forum for plant ID, called 'Name That Plant'.

Well, just in case my niece is looking in.... Vanessa Baillie, greetings from all your aunts, uncles and cousins in Ontario....Toronto mostly, send you all good tidings and await your return to frosty Canada. We're sure you are enjoying yourself in all that sunshine of Brisbane...we're all freezing still....but I'm sure you already know that from that software you and Andrew converse with. We'll be putting out our annuals in the next couple of weeks. Tulips and daffs are all up and blooming great. Your mom and dad are really excited aren't they about their cruise to the Mediterranean.....your dad's even got a tux for those formal occasions. We are all envious....but happy for them. Hello Joe ... I am one of those guilty folk who have not ... until a few minutes ago ... thanked you for your response to my query on the Bay Tree. I also posted this query in Trees so must go look to see if anyone has since responded there. To be honest, I gave up looking for a response to my query after 5-6 weeks, probably about the time you responded. I have not visited GardenWeb since as I am really only interested in the Med section and the inactivity is painful in my opinion. As far as the adverts, this seems to be the 'in' thing on many sites. I have been a member for 3 1/2 years on a VERY active UK gardening forum where people post day and night (and was a Mod but resigned for my own reasons) and they have recently taken to Google ads which is annoying many people ... not only that my also are now suggesting donations in order to get rid of these ads !!!!!!! I am also a Mod on an expat forum here and admittedly I only look once a day as there may be no postings for a couple of weeks at a time, if not longer !!! I find it hard to get around this forum (possibly because I really don't know it). It doesn't seem that once someone responds that that post goes back to the top of the list and you have to scroll down looking for your query (or response to a query). Not that you have to scroll far due to the infrequent activity here. I shall now go and look at the Portuguese query here and see if I can be of assistance. Victoria

We have never camped other than a couple of times on a sand bar on the Mississippi River with friends. I HATED it.............camping was no fun for me.......trying to cook over a fire......bah, humbug. 2 years ago we did something SO out of character for us that some people thought we fell out of bed, hit our heads, and decided to do this...........we bought a 44 foot 5th wheel toy hauler. Now we "glamp". We love it..........have had so much fun in it. We've taken the 2 grandkids and their bikes so we can ride on some bike paths. We can take the motorcycles and ride around the area. And, it even has a king sized bed! Where you can see the word "Cyclone" on the side..............that folds down into a patio. This is at Worlds of Fun Village where we parked the RV when we went down last May for the NASCAR race.

Hi hisown, My mini washing machine doesn't sound like the one you describe. Mine was fully automated with the exception of I had to plug it into an electrical socket after I pushed and pulled it into the kitchen and I had to hook the intake water tube to the kitchen faucet then I would set the faucet for the temperature I wanted to use for a cycle. It was just like a regular top loader from that time period, but about half the size. For example, to wash our king size sheets, I had to wash top sheet in one load, then fitted sheet in another load. It filled, agitated, drained and spun just like a regular top loader. When I say life was splendid with that washer, I really mean it : ) For my work laundry, it did take many loads to get a week's worth of towels, my aprons, client smocks, etc to get washed...pretty much an all day event because the capacity was half the usual size. I loved that I could soak my work laundry as much as I needed to with bleach or ammonia get them very clean rather than the laundromat washers which did not offer a soaking. I don't remember for certain which brand the mini portable washer was, but I want to say it was a Maytag. But really, I'm relying on a fuzzy, long ago memory on that. I sold the w/d set to some lucky person when we moved to Nor Cal, and while I brought a hand me down full size w/d with me on that move, I did miss those machines very much. They were wonderful trouble-free work horses. Your old semi-automatic washer sounds like a great machine too! I kind of wish more washers such as these were still made for people living in apt/condos that don't have w/d hook ups and don't fancy the whole communal laundry room/laundromat headaches.

Thanks, I've been on some other GW forums and they're really quiet compared to this one (no Kens, LOL). I've posted it on the Name That Plant forum...

Thanks! It seems to have arrived in my yard with some topsoil that was used to fill in some construction by the village. Not an unattractive little fellow, I'll be sorry to see it go away come winter. I may try to gather some seeds and make a place for it somewhere in my flower beds.

i hang out in the perennial and annual forums ... though annuals is pretty dead .. those are flower forums.. in case your farming background didnt know.. lol ...

if it seeded into your compost.. then save and retain the seed.. and spread them in a marked area in spring.. standard biz envelope ... after cleaning ... i leave mine on a draped north windowsill.. to keep them cool during furnace season ...

i dont know if the seeds themselves are winter hardy ... in your 'hood .. nor if this is worth messing with ...

Hi & welcome to GardenWeb! Hope you've had a chance to investigate the list of GardenWeb forums more closely. They are the most active gardening forums of which I'm aware. Name-that-plant is almost always the forum to go to for ID'ing, with a few exceptions, most notably roses.

Unfortunately, it's just the time of year when gardening discussions in general are heading into their usual, seasonal slow-down. But by all means, feel free to start/add to any discussions you like!

Unfortunately, the cute little flower from your picture is generally considered a weed because it has too many strikes against it. It is not native, unruly looking overall appearance, seeds prolifically, and the flowers are hard to catch since they open/close so quickly. Hence the common name "flower of an hour." I wouldn't pull one up if it appeared at my house, but wouldn't let it drop a bunch of seeds after I'd managed to catch one of the flowers open.

I wonder if these plants react to light levels, like morning glories and Mirabilis jalapa (4'o'clocks?) Maybe they're open all day (or earlier/later) if it's overcast?

Thanks, Purple. I've been hanging out around here for a while, as Ken can attest.

These guys seem to be pretty far down on the list of prolific weeds in my yard, and one of the few that is at least attractive at times. I'll be interested in seeing how they manage before I yank them, but I may also put them into pots and see if they can survive life indoors.

all that said about the various forums.. i dont think its like the olden days in GW ... where someone is going to say you have to go elsewhere.. on topic .. i was simply suggesting other places you might find the answer.. if you failed here ...

i tend to 'hang' in the forums where i have friends...

anyway.. i cant figure out how you are going to hook it to the bronco.. and pull it out of there.. lol ... this farm boy.. redefines .. moving rescued plants.. lol ...
