If you're losing 6" a day, get the lines pressure tested. Properly cared for, a freshly plastered pool's finish should be good for about 15 to 20 years. No Painting! If you have freeze thaw cycles in your area, you will get cracks or blisters in fiberglass coatings. I know of not "new" technology that will prevent it. You will also get delamination (separation) of the coating. The pool's wall will expand and contract at a different rate from the coating causing the coating to come unglued from the wall. This may take some years but I doubt it'll last 35 years. Read the warrenty's terms. Maybe it makes sense for you.

I have a number of pools in my service area that have had the fiberglass coating. They all blister and start to delaminate within 4 or 5 years. The material for the repairs never cost the homeowner but the the labor and the the water to refill the pool certainly do. It's almost as bad as painting. Invariably,the homeowner reaches a point where he has suffered enough aggravation and replasters. There are lots of choices in materials and colors with which to replaster. Plain white plaster is usually the least costly and has a expected life of 15 years in my area. Longer if it's well cared for, less if its often subjected to improper care. It can be colored. Aggregate mixes such as Diamond Brite and River Rok will last longer normally because they have added materials that are more resistant to abuse. They also offer a number color variations, textures, and patterns not found in solid color plasters. Expect an additional 5 to 10 years of life over plain plaster. Pebble finishes are, for now, the top end and are usually the most durable. They come in many colors and textures. They are also the most expensive. Some brands are available to all finishers, some have exclusive deals with particular finishers in a given region. Scott

The only luck I've ever had with these finishes was to smack it with acid and dropping the PH bigtime. Then brush brush brush, in a little it'll time come around. Then keep your PH on the low side of mid 7's and ALK at 100 (+-20) and don't let CH go over 300. Schmackmaster is correct, don't trust the samples to gauge your pool finish by. Don't give up on your finish and don't expect anything more from your builder than the drain, acid wash, and diamond buff. If they have marbletite "Bond-Tite" bags, they are likely using this as the bond coat between the existing plaster and the new Diamond Brite...an important step... Diamond brite is a pre-bagged quartz finish. Installation must be done per manufacturer's instructions or your manufacturer's warranty may be affected, however there are a number of variables in pool plastering, so it may behoove you to find out from the installer exactly what they plan on doing. Many times installation methods differ between various geographic regions due to weather, humidity, time of year, etc....
