I have relatives in PA who grow the groundcover 'Bubbles' in a location where it cascades down an embankment. It's a real eye-catcher that produces LOTS of small pink flowers almost non-stop from spring through late fall. I ordered 'Bubbles' last spring ('07) and am growing it in a container until I can assess its performance in the intense sunlight/humidity of my zone. So far, it's looking pretty good. If 'Bubbles' does well again this year, my plan is to buy more and use them at the top of a retaining wall (replacing 'Roseberry Blanket).

HelpMeFind lists 'Bubbles' but, unfortunately, has no photographs of it. Last time I checked, it was available to U.S. gardeners only thru Pickering. It seems that I once located another source for it, but I can't remember where that might have been.

I've seen 'Buff Beauty' used this way to great effect.

Prettypetals, 'Pink Bells' is really a one time blooming rose, but the foliage is healthy and glossy - just beautiful throughout the summer - at least in the PNW. We have never sprayed our plant and I have never seen any disease on it. It also makes the most spectacular cascading tree rose. And, it's extremely easy to root cuttings.

Ramblers cascade nicely over walls as many have pliable canes. Some even have stiffer canes and grow very tall. On my web site under Garden Photos, there is a picture of ramblers on the fence. The fence is 5 feet but the ramblers are cut off and not allowed to grow over. However it will give you an idea of what your wall would look like with a rambler on it.

Climbing Pinkie should cascade for you, and Sweet Chariot is absolutely made for this situation, would be a nice accent as it is a blend of pink/mauve. Can't wait to hear what suggestion people have for you, as I feel sure some of the noisettes would do well in this situation too. I am growing Sea Foam in a raised bed, but the canes are quite stiff; it is completely flat to the ground, looks like I pegged it. Some roses, like Alba Meidiland, will cascade down the wall and then take root at the base of the wall & keep right on truckin'!!

Hybrid Musks. williamcartwright suggested Buff Beauty; I'd add Cornelia, which has long flexible canes and lovely foliage and is fragrant: it's a natural for cascading over a wall.
Mind you, I think Cornelia is marvelous any place, any time.

How about Red Cascade and/or Sea foam. Red cascade is a healthy blooming machine for me. I gave Sea Foam to my Mom last mother's day and it too blooms nonstop.

Red Cascade which is classified as a mini because it has thousands of small dark red flowers. Its a wichuraiana though and grows like a rambler. This rose has no real faults in my climate. Does not require spraying and if you want you can prune it with hedge clippers or a chainsaw or whatever. Its self cleaning so deadheading not required, the blooms dry beautifully. My favorite blooms to use to decorate food.

There's always the Fairy and her various sports (the Fairies?). You do a loose canned rambler and a clematis (since ramblers usually bloom just once.
