Rose Nabonnand anyone?

I got this rose by mistake last fall and then decided to keep it. How could I let go of a pretty tea rose? There are no photos of it on HMF and very little information. I bought her from Angel Gardens who may have gotten it from the Goodwood Plantation Rose Sale in Tallahassee. I have seen about 3 flowers on her so far. Last fall her flower was pale salmon/pink barely double with a beautiful bud. Yesterday's flower was what I would call the palest porcelain blush of a Victorian lady's complexion with no yellow. The one significant thing that HMF says is that she's "thornless (or almost)." I just ran out with the flashlight, and my rose is thornless! Dickerson says, "Thorns rare, but protrusive". His description of the color is in the ballpark of my rose.

Does anyone else grow her? I'd really like to see some photos and read your impressions of this rose. I think I'm going to like mine. For one thing she holds her flowers straight up and strong.

Yesterday (I think our chilly weather is making small flowers with lower petal counts) Today she was wide open already & not a lot of petals and almost no pink left.

Silvia, the gardenweb member you mention is Randy in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. As I recall he chose this name because of his fondness of the tea rose Gilbert Nabonnand a truly outstanding rose.

Sherry, could it be that the rose is still trying to build up roots, canes and leaves before it flowers more? Compared to the rose next to it, it still looks rather fragile. It may just need another year or two before it blooms throughout the year. I think the flowers are very pretty though, and look fuller than the pictures I've seen of NN blooms. Ingrid

I love my Noella and I have had her for several years. She does repeat for me but didn't for the first couple of years. I have tried everything. I have whacked her back to about 6 ft.in the spring, cut out old growth. Cut her back after the spring bloom, cut back the longest canes during the summer and she is still determined to throw long canes all over the garden, the berms behind the garden, straight up in the air, everywhere. Mine is on an obelisk and it is not a good way to grow her. She is pliable enough to train the canes, she just wants to be too big! This girl could cover a pergola all by herself. I keep trying to contain her because I love this rose but I think she needs a bigger garden and a much bigger structure to spread her wings :-) Carol

I have never tried to grow a tea rose, but this post is making me want one. Maybe in a pot that I can place in midday sun and bring into the cold basement... I don't think teas get nearly as big in my Northern European climate as in the US. Maybe I will get a Clementina Carbonieri to see what those colours are relly like 😊 I remember reading that Emmanuella de Mouchy is thought to actually be Irene Bonnet. I can get a E d M in Denmark but it is said to only flower in summer. Can it still be Irene Bonnet then, I wonder? @Formerly RBEHS Z10A/S17 does your Irene bloom more than once?

I don't know it, but I do like the color.
And I've found the Nabonnand roses that I DO know to be terrific, non-fussy garden plants.

Sherry, She looks beautiful. Unfortunately, I know nothing about her.

I HAVE heard good things about the whole Nabonnand clan. That's why I think you REALLY need to take a trip to Europe and get an Isabelle Nabonnand to keep Rose Nabonnand company. **HUGE grin** I'm sure Rose doesn't want to be seperated from her sister. Jeff
