Can I safely use dog waste in my garden if...

Howdy all! This is my first post here and I've recently started composting my kitchen waste. I also want to find a way to safely compost and use dog waste in my vegetable garden. I understand that it can contain all sorts of nasty pathogens, even after extended composting.

Here's what I want to do:

1) Compost dog waste with sawdust in a covered pit. I'm thinking about using one of those blue recycling bins and drilling some holes in the bottom for drainage.

2) When the waste/sawdust mixture has composted, dump it in a shallow hole and cover it with a few inches normal dirt

3) Build a large, hot "campfire" over the area that contains the compost.

This should kill remaining pathogens, but will it have a negative effect on the compost? Also, I decided to cover the compost with dirt to help keep the ashes out of the compost, as this could cause it to become too basic.

What do you guys think? Good idea or am I just playing with fire? (ha!)

Thank you,

Florian
