Daybreaker was probabaly my most prolific bloomer. It was very prone to black spot even with weekly spraying and an absolute thrip magnet. Through it all the blooming never slowed. I did get rid of it because of the other issues but it is a hard worker.

Mike, I got Daybreaker about 2 years ago. It has bloomed constantly since its first season. It does not have any blackspot, the foliage is tiny and shiny. The only problem I have with it is that the blooms are never like the ones in the catalogue. They're tiny and not anything like the dark yellow they're supposed to be, they're a pale cream here with no shading whatsoever. I almost got rid of it but finally last autumn (March 2009) the plant did produce those gorgeous blooms. I was very pleased with it but again later that spring (Oct 2009) onwards I've had the same tiny unimpressive flowers. Hopefully it's autumn flowers will be more beautiful (heaps of buds right now). Perhaps it needs to be established. As I said, the flower production is great. Since this rose is very highly regarded by most people, I'm thinking it's just not settled in yet or perhaps doesn't like the dry hot conditions here. I would be interested to know how you go with yours (if you have the same problem). Hopefully it'll do great for you.

In this garden, 'Day Breaker' has had poorer-than-average disease resistance but it is a truly continuous and generous bloomer, and has been for years. For flower production, can't top it. If you have an effective spray program it is a good rose.

hoovb, how big are your Daybreaker blooms? Mine are no more than 2 inches. I'm wondering if I've had the wrong rose all this time? Are the flowers old-fashioned? Mine mostly look like old-fashioned flowers, but are colourless (not even white, just a dull cream) and always look shrivelled and dried up. My Mum looked at my 'daybreaker' and announced it the ugliest rose in my garden. I'm really puzzled about it.

Sorry, Mike, I'm sure I have the wrong rose. Most people love 'Daybreaker' and it is an award-winning rose.

I grew Daybreaker for 4 years in a container. My space is at a premium so in the end I had to let her go. She's just not a heat lover. The blooms are gorgeous in the spring, stopping many passersby who would look at her and ask me her name. She was nicely fragrant too. But when the heat set in, her abundant blooms were a far cry from those nice spring flowers. Also in my climate she needed a very regular spray schedule for BS. For some reason when the weather cooled off in fall she still wasn't as attractive as in the spring (but of course much better then in the summer). I think if I were in a cooler climate, or a climate that had more cool weather then hot, Day Breaker would be at the top of my must have list.....As for Rock n Roll, the only thing I've heard is that she doesn't hold her form all that long, but since I don't grow her can't say that is true. You will have to be the judge on both of them, of course, and they may end up doing just fine for you.

My Mom grows Rock 'n Roll in the Eastern half of the state and it does well for her.
She doesn't have your humidity but it does get hot in the Summer months.
If you can keep it clean it will probably be a nice Rose for you.
Tall, always blooming and Very Fragrant.
Now, would you send me some Fiorella's Chicken?

Yes, definitely my rose looks nothing like that. That was the one I ordered, but have been sent a totally different rose (daybreak is not available here). Since this was two years ago its too late to let them know now. This is such a pain. I should have questioned them earlier. Thats a beautiful rose, by the way, and you do know how to grow them.

I would not be without Day Breaker. It blooms almost non stop all season even in my very cold climate. Did I mention it only gets about 5 hours of sun a day. Love it. I do use a systemic fungiside from time to time.

rock n roll isn't great in Tampa BAY ....FOR ME

I have Rock n Roll. It appears to need some time to really establish itself. The flowers are on the small side in my garden and are fragrant and showy, but the striping is a function of temperature. Warmer temperatures reduce the striping down to almost a solid red. When the weather cools off some the striping returns. I do not know if this is true for all striped varieties, but I do see the temperature effect on this one.
