on my 10x12 HFGH I took the time to tape all my ends. I bought a roll of the silver mylar tape that is used on duct work (NOT duct tape!) I cut the strips in half and then applied. then poked a hole in each one with a tack so the moisture wouldn't get trapped. After a couple of seasons, it has held up fairly well and the moisture hasn't been a problem. A couple of areas have fallen off...and the bugs have found their way in ther. Recently we had a storm that broke two of our trellis off at ground level up rooted trees but NO damage to our 10x12 HFGH. This is the 4th season of growing plants from seeds in it and the panels show no sign of yellowing or deterioration. Only problem is with vent motor I have had trouble with electric vent motors being junk. I bought it from IGC.

Hi All, in addition to the hfgh lesson, I had to figure out how to get back to my own post, as this was my first on gardenweb. (Great community by the way). So, It is up! The issue was the little number stickers were on the wrong panels. I tried to put the 2 front panels on the sides. after trying 2 of them, I decided to try another, and it fit. Figuring out the mistake, I thought I was in business, Get those panels installed in 30 mintues, and enjoy a glass of sweet tea. Well, 3 hours later, i finally got the last of the panel clips in. I also had a bit of a twist in the whole frame that I couldn't see, but a diagional measurement showed it. I loosened most of the nuts and gave the whole gh a shove, it went square, and the roof panels went right in. I purchases my gh on Wednesday, Started installation on Saturday, and finished Sunday night. Spare parts kit was a lifesaver, im glad they include it. Reading the forums, i decided to mount it on 4x4's that works really good, because I wanted to move it forward a few feet, I just put an eyebolt in the front 4x4 and pulled it with the lawnmower, worked like a charm. Only complaint is the doors, I seen how some people were having issues keeping them closed, well i am having issues opening them. I have adjusted the top and bottom wheels, but they are still very hard to open, thinking of adding grease. More than likely, i will take them off, and build a regular frame and a glass storm door entry. This week, I hope to get all the pvc conduit ran, lights, possibly trench a line to run some water for a small sink. I am rambling, just typing as it comes to me, but I think I should put weed barrier down first, then the electrical conduit, then probably 1.5 to 1 tons of 1/2" gravel. One other thing, the automatic roof vent openers, I decided not to get them based on reviews, instead i think i will use some pneumatic cylinders i have laying around. All said and done, me complaining about having to buy $1.25 tomatoe will cost me about $1000. Got the GH for $480 with raincheck and 20% coupon. Thanks!

As far as I know, you shouldn't have to caulk the roof panels in your HFGH to make the roof watertight. Someone may correct me, but I don't recall reading about anyone who had to caulk all the roof panels to correct a leak problem. I used foam weatherstripping on all four edges of my panels, roof and wall, as I installed them. I did it to get a good air seal to avoid heat loss during the winter, but I suppose the good seal provided by the weatherstripping might also help keep things water tight. The foam weatherstripping was a bit of a pain to apply, but it really does help with the seal, and I like it because I can still remove any panels if I want to, unlike panels that are caulked in place. I haven't had any roof leaks, and mine is going on three years old. However, I honestly don't recall reading about this as a problem among folks who didn't use weatherstripping, either. Is it leaking at the four corners, where the roof touches the corner wall posts? I had some big gaps (and leaks) at the top of all four corner posts, after everything was assembled. I fixed that with little folded over pieces of weatherstripping, covered with aluminum tape, and sealed over with clear silicone caulk. It wasn't very elegant, but the gaps were fairly large, and that solved the problem. No more water running down the corner posts during a rain. I also caulked my roof window panels into the roof window frames, but not because of leaks; it was because the poly panels for my windows were a bit too small to fit snugly in the frames, and they tended to shift around in the window frames in high winds. Those are the only panels I've used caulk on, in my greenhouse. I'm hoping someone else will chime in here, since this isn't a problem I've experienced on my own HF 10x12. Did you order extra clips to install the panels, or did you only use the clips supplied with the kit? I'm just trying to think of anything that might help improve contact between the roof panels and the frame. My roof panels are secured with extra clips (and a screw into the frame, for protection against wind loss.)
