You must have oakleaf hydrangeas and blueberries.

The OHs are my favorite shrub, even though they occasionally get some winter damage here in NoVA. The leaves are striking, the shrubs flower before the h. macrophyllas even think about opening up, and they are still in bloom, 6 weeks or more later. Great fall color. Leaves hang on in the winter though and look very sad. No insect or fungus problems. They wilt a little at midday if they're in a lot of sun.

Blueberries are not the world's most attractive shrubs, though the leaves get bright fall color. They have an open habit and sparse foliage. The branches are generally upright except when the fruit is ripening, and then they arch toward the ground. The wood is brittle and bits break off readily when you're trying to pick. Flowers are insignificant.

But (BUT!) blueberry pie is very tasty, as are blueberry sorbet, blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes, blueberry syrup - you get the picture. You want at least two shrubs, but those two will keep you supplied with fresh berries for weeks and you'll have enough left to freeze.

No insect or fungus problems, but Japanese beetles will sometimes damage fruit. Not a big deal most years, as far as I can tell - certainly not the kind of ruination that JBs inflict on roses.

The azaleas are deciduous and so will provide three seasons of interest - spring flowers, fall foliage, winter branching patterns (which are architecturally interesting, at least in my opinion). If you want those please be aware that those plants' native habitat is the edge of a forest clearing - under the tree branches, but where they still get dappled sun. You want to put them in shade, but not deep shade. Putting them in full sunlight is not the best idea, although people do it not realizing it's a mistake.

Your azaleas will grow best, and look most in place, if you put them in part to mostly shade. The ground also ought to remain moist most of the time. I think one or two of your azalea choices will even grow in wet soils, but I'd have to double check a reference to be certain of that.

If I may, if you haven't considered summersweet (Clethra alnifolia), it will provide you with a few weeks of midsummer flowers with a wonderful fragrance and (if memory serves) yellow fall foliage.

You may get more input from your regional forum on these particular plants and how well they do in your area; my experience with these shrubs (or, these varieties, at least) is limited.

Of the shrubs on you list, I grow only caryopteris (blue mist) which is lovely but reseeds prolifically here, and blueberry; also very nice but exactly what information do you want about it?

If I were looking for multi-season interest, I'd include one of the witch hazels that blooms in late winter/early spring.

You should also provide some information about the conditions in which you are going to plant: what's the sun exposure, what's the soil like, what is the water availability. No one can tell you which of the ones you're choosing between will perform better without knowing a lot more about how it will be grown.
