I let a bunch of volunteer tomatoes stay, too. I had to resow my toms due to container failure, and they didn't look too promising at first, so I didn't want to pull all the volunteers. Now they are all the same size and looking beautiful. Don't know which is more tasty....maybe the volunteers are a different variety...or did you WS the same types as you grew last year? Linda

I have Ladybird's book, WILDFLOWERS ACROSS AMERICA. She was by far my favorite of the Johnsons. I worked for several years down in Port O'Connor TX, where the old Indianola was located, a town they called "The Mother of West Texas"....and where the camels landed that were taken into the southwest from Indianola. It was wiped out by two hurricanes around 1849 or so, and the thrifty settlers took their imported bricks and such and created the town of Victoria. All that is to say that I loved that little Port O'Connor, by Matagorda Bay, it was surrounded by wildflowers, and I have boxes of photos of the flowers and houses and boats that I took during my years working there. My nephew saved that box from Hurricane Katrina, but I've not opened it since then. Perhaps I should. The box contains the memories of my 20 years at sea.

Can you posy a digital image? A plant of Silvia microphylla Wild Watermelon at the J C Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC has a branch with darker than normal flowers. I took a cutting to experiment with, and it s stable, with its shoots producing similar dark flowers. Is your greggii a named variety?
