Richard, your pond construction certainly will contain the turtles.

I've been successful using black plastic chicken wire. The fence is supported by rocks and angled to keep the turtles from climbing. The black plastic also becomes almost invisible from a few yards away.

Although the enclosure has some dry land for basking, the turtles like to lay on top of my iris plants.

Nice looking painted turtle there (Eastern, I presume).

Nice tip on the wire approach for turtle containment; we also had to think in terms of keeping the dogs out of ours, and allowing for a pond with the water level about 1.5' above ground-level.

With ponds, there are so many ways to do some things.
