Fish Death

A co-worker's husband has a fish pond. I gave him a bunch of my babies, including one I've mentioned, Bones. He had borrowed two 55 gallon tanks to set up in the basement so he could bring the fish in for the winter.

Yesterday I asked her how they were doing and she told me they were all dead.

He works out of town and she cares for them during the week. Last week she got home from work and went out to check on them and they were all motionless in the water. She stuck her finger in the water to push one to see if it was alive and she got a shock.

She called her husband and he told her to unplug the underwater light. Sure enough. That was the culprit. Over the next 36 hours they all died: first the small ones, then the next morning the medium ones, then that night the large ones.

So.. this is a lesson. I don't know the brand of light.

I sure do feel badly for him. I know how much he liked his fish.
