A nasty weed that's over-running the hills near here

I call this obnoxious plant "micro-burrs" because of the tiny burr-like seed pods that it gets. It first started popping up in shaded areas in the S.F. East Bay foothills, some three or four years back, but I've been hiking along deer trails over the past couple of months, and this stuff has overrun almost everywhere, except that it doesn't like direct sun unless there is Italian Thistle for it to grow amongst.

This is a *horrible* plant to have to hike through, you get hundreds of the seed pods stuck to your cloths, and when you try to brush them off, you get countless tiny, almost invisible needles stuck in your skin!!

It won't help me get rid of the stuff, but I'd like to at least know what (printable) name I can attach to it.

Here are some photos I took yesterday:

Thanks for the help.
