Concrete vs pavers vs flagstone patio
Comments (1)We had a similar decision to make last winter and ultimately went with concrete. For us, the look of concrete goes better with the house and it's cleaner because there is no sand between pavers to track inside. That, and it was the cheapest option. Wet-laid flagstone and brick are much nicer but about 5x the cost. Depending on the gravel, there may only be minimal surface prep needed before being able to pour right on top since you're already 4" deep. Especially if you go with concrete, make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing and gives you details on exactly what will be done (rebar spacing, type of concrete mix, finish type, cut lines, etc). It's true that concrete cracks. After 1 harsh winter we have a few _hairline_ cracks (you really have to look to see them) but even so we're still very happy how the slab turned out....See Morepaver vs. brick vs. stone?
Comments (1)Brick is generally softer and more prone to breaking. Also will be slightly smaller than pavers. Stone will be irregular and require more careful fitting. That, in my opinion, are the only drawbacks of the three. Decide the look you desire and go for it. The base is the same for all and is important that it be proper for your climate....See MorePavers vs stamped concrete vs dyed concrete
Comments (22)On the front elevation I'd get rid of the gable over the garage. All it does is lead your eye to the garage and detract from the main body of the house. It's not a feature. The other thing I'd do is insist on them not doing the pork chop returns. Your house has a historical feel to it and that just screams contemporary mass builder.Below the red arrows point to the pork chop returns. Lastly on the rear, you have one window that isn't consistent with the rest of the windows. The one with the arched top. I'd change it to a transom window top to match the other transom windows. BTW: What is above the window I changed? That's a large blank wall on the exterior....See MoreDeck vs brick patio vs pavers
Comments (3)https://youtu.be/lOAwXzKfTxY Providing your topsoil is removed and construction backfill has settled (generally 3-5 years) your patio should not experience further settling. Pavers are concrete and intended for patio use, not all brick are fired hard enough to withstand being layed as a patio. Being you’re in LA, severe weather is not of concern. Pavers with sand filling the space will drain well. i suspect morter might fail in a tremor. Video shows our paver patio in the midwest built 20 years ago....See MoreRelated Professionals
