Yes it is a veggie garden. Sprinkled some seeds around just in case the bugs and gophers ate my other plants. Some herbs, cucumbers, green peppers, squash, tomatoes, chili peppers, pumpkin, lettuce, strawberries, mint, oregano and I think that's all I planted. These are popping up all over the place and I thought they were the jalapeño peppers. Now I don't know what they are. This is our first summer here but I have never seen Datura or nightshade on the property. My veggie garden is the only place this plant is growing. I live in Southern California near Burbank Ca. I don't want to wait for it to get huge if it is poisonous but also don't want to rip it up if it is a veggie because it is all over the garden. Next time I should write down what I sprinkled. Had some old seeds and just wanted to see if any were viable. Thanks for your help.

Well, the first one is black nightshade, a common enough weed, particularly problematic in soybean fields where it is difficult to control with Roundup due to its late germination and rapid maturity.

Thanks everyone. Now that you all gave me a reference and a name to look up, I have been able to find a lot on the internet and my own reference books. It looks like mine may be an edible variety...though since there is a lot of debate on the net and a lot of toxic varieties I will not add it to my home menu until absolutely sure. That is indeed Peppermonia, its fairly common in my local supermarket and draws me in at a distance thinking it is a hoya till i get close. on the otherhand i do know a bit Peperomias are widely grown as houseplants and includes some choice succulent species with windowed leaves. The genus Piper includes plants that are the source of spices and mild narcotics. The berries of the climbing vine Piper nigrum are made into black pepper. Piper ornatum has attractively patterned foliage. The Pepper Family Piperaceae does not include Potatoes, Tobacco, Tomato, Bell Peppers, and Chilli Peppers. These belong to the Nightshade Family (Solanaceae).... which i have developed a sensitivity to... hence why i know the difference.
