Comments (22)Sara-Ann and other cold-zoners: Which of the roses that Sarah mentioned below are most winter hardy, and were they own-root, grafted-on-Dr.Huey, or grafted-on-multiflora? thank you. Below are the roses that Sara-Ann (zone 6) mentioned: "Memorial Day, Double Delight, Beverly, Perfume Delight, Tiffany, Francis Meilland, Bewitched, Twilight Zone, Pink Peace, Fragrant Plum, Grande Dame, Buxom Beauty, Big Momma, Melodee Parfumme, Fragrant Plum, Twilight Zone and Melodee Parfumme, Angel Face, Sheila's Perfume and Sunsprite." From StrawChicago: From the above list, Double Delight survives 8 of my zone 5 winters as grafted-on-Dr.Huey, Bewitched died since it was a tiny rooting, own-root Twilight Zone is vigorous & blooms lots after seven zone 5 winters, Angel face died both as own-root and grafted-on-Dr.Huey, Sheila's perfume died as own-root through winter....See MoreHybrid Teas/Grandifloras with non typical Hybrid Tea bloom form
Comments (10)I would say that Ascot, Dainty Bess, Augusta Luise, Abbaye de Cluny, Rouge Royale, and Twilight Zone, among others, don't fit the bloom shape or growth habit of a classic hybrid tea. Frederic Mistral has a more HT bloom look, but the big bushy growth habit doesn't look like a typical HT, either. Sara Ann what a luscious group you have posted above. I think Crazy Love and Twilight Zone are my favorites. Your CL looks better than any on HMF. Diane...See MoreMystery red hybrid tea rose - any guesses?
Comments (12)Natureinspired - I tried your suggestion and yes it’s more fragrant in the morning! I would describe the fragrance intensity on a similar level as Bolero or Munstead Wood but lacks the complexity of either…no rich base or wafting high notes. It’s a very familiar hybrid tea / florist rose scent. The young growth is definitely red. Your bloom looks like a different petal count though…or there variation with Mr. Lincoln’s petal count? I also took a photo of the underside of the leaf. It’s pale and the leaves closer to the base of the plant have a bit of a reddish tinge to the underside. There are no other buds do I couldn’t get a picture of that but I’ll see if it sets hips later and get a photo. Rosecanadian - Maybe in our climates Mr. Lincoln stays small and not as fragrant as for people more south. I recall seeing somewhere (maybe on HMF) that Mr. Lincoln is listed as zone 7(????)…how are we growing them then? I don’t winter protect any of my roses at all....See Morekstrong
