Well, despite the fact that gas lines have been run down our road, we are on a flag lot (3 houses down a common drive) and my understanding is that they have no intentions of running it down to us anytime soon ....actually last I heard was something like 7 years. A drawback to country-ish living. Anyhow, my husband bought 2 purple (?night owl or something like that) climbing roses to go over the tank. We bought a sweet autumn clematis to cover the ground in front of and around the side of the tank. I was thinking of growing a clematis with the rose but pruning sounds like a nightmare if they didn't share the exact same needs and to be honest I have no idea how to take care of these roses we just bought. I do think in 3 years we will have the prettiest propane tank in town!! I actually have no idea if I'm allowed to plant on it...I'll make sure to keep the valves and pipes free of plant. Ornamental grasses arent the best for hiding ugly things year round. They should be cut down to a few inches in spring, leaving a gap for a while til it grows in again. Really an evergreen shrub or large perennial would be your best bet. There arent too many grasses that can stand shade. Good luck! Jen

Underground tanks will be and must be listed as underground tanks, this info is on the data plate. There are three types: aboveground(AG), AG/UG, and underground(UG). The AG/UG tanks can be used in either service. The underground tanks usually have some form of an epoxy type coating instead of paint, and scratches in the coating should on be repaired with the same coating available from the manufacturer. Anodes are used to protect the tank from corrosion, with magnesium being the most common type but depending on soil conditions other types are used as well, and a certain size anode or multiple anodes are used depending on soil type and tank size. Clearances from property lines, structures, wells, buried power lines etc. must be met as well. Most LP companies do this quite often and can line up everything needed to do it. It is recommended by the anode manufactures that the space around the tank be backfilled with the original soil, or completely with sand but never both unless thoroughly mixed. Rocks should be removed from the backfill and special care should be taken to prevent damage to the coating while backfilling. It is a very simple job to do, usually taking about 30min to one hour to do.

Thanks for the suggestions. I should have stated it's my pool propane tank that needs moving, they will not allow us to bury or paint it. I just called up a company that sells camouflaging rocks for tanks unfortunately not the kind of tank I have. I would have taken a picture today, but it's raining, will take when it stops. Right now I'm leaning toward putting a fence around it, with hanging plants. Guidelines also state they need "easy access" on one side. My husband is calling up other companies trying to get a better price, and we are hoping not to dig up more of the yard then we have to on the move. I've always said a house is the biggest sponge you can buy. Thanks again for all suggestions!
