I don't know what kind of waterfall biofilter you have so I don't know for sure. If the top of the biofilter is open like a skippy, they will be fine. Other wise they are just fuel for the biofilter. Sandy

Some species of salamander will lay eggs in late summer, to hatch and overwinter as tadpoles. It sounds like there's no easy solution, other than to leave it where it is for now. If it was a mistake by a foolish mother who laid in too small of a water body, it's nature's way of preventing her from reproducing more young with poor judgement. It may also be of a species which intends to lay in small puddles, to be morphed into adults and on their way befor winter (although I don't know of any off the top of my head). You could try transferring them to the closest vernal pond, if that's an option. Those on my property never went dry this year with all of the rain we've gotten.

well...no matter whether you put them in a close pond or not...winter is still an issue. But, that is something we can't control. I would take them inside. You can by a buch of hundred dollar tanks that will be too small or you can buy like 5 or 6 cheap rubbermaid tubs that work exactly the same. make sure the water is shallow and has pebbles and rocks for the new frigs to walk out on. Feed the tadpoles HBH forg and tadpole bites. When you get new frogs, put them in another tank. Then release them when it is warm enough.

I welcome frogs in my various small stock tank ponds. I've never had trouble with them eating my water lilies......although I think the darned snails do that. Is your lily in a container? If so, do you occasionally thin and replant it and fertilize it? If so, it will probably come back next year. I also welcome snakes.......but I've told them to never eat a frog when I'm around. :) Yes, if you build a pond, frogs will come.........but also snakes. It's sort of like getting angry at squirrels for eating your birdseed. Ponds are a snakes natural habitat......and they eat frogs, so you shouldn't be surprised. (And please don't kill them if they show up). When we have ponds, it's like hanging up a sign that says "All water-loving beings welcomed". So.........
