What is this Red-Pink Artichoke like flower on Plant

Plant found with artichoke like flower on it. I have seen a plant with these leaves before, but never with this blossom on it! Please help.

It's a magnolia. Maybe someone else can tell you what kind.

The cone in the center of the flower later turns into a cone with seeds. The seeds are inside the compartments, which split open when the fruits are ripe, allowing the seeds to dangle out.

Magnolias are so ancient their flowers can be seen to be a cone with leaves around it.
