question about color of verbascum 'southern charm'

Hey everybody! I've had a verbascum 'southern charm' for a couple of years, and love it. While at a local nursery recently, I came across a gallon sized plant on the seasonal markdown table. It was marked v. 'southern charm' as well, but it had a bloom spike on it and the color wasn't anything like the 'southern charm' I already have, or any other photos I've ever seen. The plant I've had already is the typical buff/peachy color that you normally see. But the new plant (which, of course, I bought-- it was $2!) is yellow. Not a super bright yellow, but a soft, buttery banana yellow. In doing a google search, I did find a photo showing a range of colors for 'southern charm', but since I'd never previously personally seen any other shade, I wanted to ask everyone here about their experience with this cultivar. Or perhaps I bought one which was just mislabeled? Here's the link:

I'm not familiar with that cultivar, but I had a similar experience with V. 'Pink Petticoat'. I fell in love with the bloom color in the store. It was a beautiful coral pink. But all the future blooms that year were yellow. It was up against my beige house and yellow and beige make me gag, so I got rid of it the next year. It wasn't doing so well by the 2nd year anyhow.

I did wonder if the heat affected the color. When I bought it, it was spring and cooler. Was my first (and last?) experience with verbascum.

I grew 'Southern Charm' from seed a few years ago. It came up and bloomed in three different colors. Here's how Parks describes the colors:

"..creamy golden, peachy rose, and softest lavender.."

I grow a tall white one. THey tend to loose a lot of flowers when handled but have so many buds waiting to open that by the next morning they are flower covered again. I always start them from seed and that works well. I have grown the SOuthern Charms and am going to grow it again as that was at my last house. Some verbascums are only annuals. I would go for the perennial type. My white ones grow and bloom all summer long and are in their 5th year now. Agastache seems to do well in our climate. I keep adding new ones.

I tried growing some verbascums a couple years ago. Don't think they were Southern Charm but they were a variety touted as a "good cut." I was not impressed and ended up ripping them out. Were not as tall as I would have liked, fairly muted (i.e., not vibrant) colors, and not enough flowers on the stem in general. Not what I would have expected considering the pictures you see in the glossy color catalogs. I was told by some other growers that they tend to shatter after cutting as well. what I have read says that a charm quilt is one piece blocks all the same size in all different fabrics. But, If you wanted to make it a different way it is your quilt and it would be lovely. I wish I had my pictures on this computer. I could post a picture just like the one above. My fabricator measured, rather than templating, so some adjusting was definitely necessary. I didn't love the fabricator we used (Edge Detail) overall, but I love our GC so if he stood by his work I was okay with it. If you haven't read already, BE THERE FOR THE INSTALL if at all possible (and probably check it out at the shop before and after they cut it too). You do NOT, however, want the fabrication done at your house (nor would they I would doubt). All that is done at your house may be shaving off a little on the edges to match your walls and make it fit. They will likely also cut the holes for your faucets on site. I have read here some say it's messy and a problem, but I didn't really find it to be. What would have been a problem is that they would have set my faucets back too far if I hadn't been there to "help" them measure.

Mine range from buff to a wonderful dusty rose color (my favorite). Haven't seen a yellow. There are several new varieties that are very similar.

Okay, thanks! I'm quite pleased with the yellow, actually; I just wasn't sure if it was labeled correctly. Now I know it is! Happy new year everyone!

Mammie, thanks for the link! It's not that one, though; it's not that yellow. I'm thinking, now, that it's just a different hue within the blends that 'southern charm' encompasses. Thanks eveybody for the help! I appreciate it.
