Which is a Better Choice?

Like most of you, I am trying to figure out what I want to plant when spring finally comes. I am trying to decide between globe thistle or sea holly. Does one have better (more attractive) foliage than the other? Are either of them better planted behind something to hide straggly leaves and stems? I am looking for something about 3ft tall that blooms mid-summer. The bed faces S/SE, so it gets sun most of the day. Soil is ammended clay. The bed is small (about 4X10). Right now there are Iberis, Chrysanthemums (if they make it through the winter) and a Rose Creek Abelia. I was also thinking of adding some Siberian Iris for some earlier color. I would love to hear any thoughts on either of these plants.

Thanks,
