Do you mean the fruit is red or are the seeds red? I've never seen ripe red seeds, just brown and black. Most do best when planted fresh but I successfully store some passion flower seeds in damp sand in the fridge and some just in bags once they're dried in the fridge. Some varieties have extremely long germination times. Do you know what variety it is?

I would guess that if youÂre growing these out in the open in the UK, then what you most likely have is Passiflora caerulea . I have a specimen of this species growing in my garden (itÂs a bit of a thug!).
I have also recently harvested some seed pods and upon extracting the seeds noted that the juicy "sacks", (technically known as arils) enveloping the seeds, have a red coloration, the seeds being black.

I have two varieties with bright orange arils, a morifolia (purple fruit) and an amethystina cross (maybe pollinated by a caerulea?). I often store them in sand as mentioned earler but I'll also store them still enclosed in the arils in the fridge if I'm going to be planting them within a reasonably short amount of time. I just wash off the seeds as best I can before planting. I start them in pots then transfer them to the garden when they are big enough to handle. I'm not sure if the hardy varieties might need a period of cold stratification to germinate.

It seems from what I have read, P.caerulea does not require cold stratification to germinate although much of the information on Passiflora germination out there on the web is contradictory at best, especially the advice given regarding the removal or not of arils prior to sowing the seed (it appears that one of the reasons for removal of arils seems to be an expectation of the growth of undesirable moulds and fungi - how they manage without us in the wild is surely amazing!)
Experimentation may thus be resorted to - it's always fun to do anyway.

Dog I already have blooms from the original amethystina cross. I have a few different plants from the orignal batch of seeds. The blooms look very similar to each other but have a few differences in shape and color. The green fruit is from those plants. I just don't know what might have pollinated them this time. This is turning into a long line of mutt passies. lol

Thanks. The pod parent is an amethystina, don't know about the pollen parent (s). The seeds were collected from several fruits off the same plant.
