I know a lot of rose growers visit the Clematis forum often. I have just been over there, and learned that Miguel (nckvilledudes) passed away this last week. Such a shock, and very sad news. He was so knowledgeable and helpful to everyone. I'm sure many of you would want to pass along your condolences.

That's heartbreaking. His love of clematis and gardens in general, and his knowledge and expertise shone out from every post. What a loss!

I almost cried reading this news. And he just ordered his first rose and was looking forward to get it in April. It's heartbreaking every way.

Miguel's online name was nckvilledudes. If you do a search of this forum under that name, dozens of his posts will turn up. He may not still be with us, but his posts and his knowledge lives on :-) And Dan at Brushwood has introduced a new clematis, 'Miguel', in his honor for all the many contributions he made here and to all clematis lovers. I considered him one of my best online gardening buddies. He is still very much missed.

Kind of hard to tell Dana. The outside coloring of the flowers on both of my plants is a greyish purple and the inside is more purple with some red undertones. Here are two more shots. Just realize that one of my plants is planted near viorna and the other is coplanted with viorna and glaucophylla so you might have some sort of hybrid there. I find it difficult to decide how something really looks without seeing it in person since the act of taking a picture can sometimes change the color. Yours looks great anyway. Make sure you post pictures of any other plants you get from seeds I sent. I like to see how the "children" are doing! LOL

Even though I never met him in person, he seemed like such a nice man. He helped me, and many others, out with their clematis questions countless times, putting a lot of time and thought into each query. I was so very sad when I heard, and now even more so knowing that he was just about to discover the joy of rose growing and never got the chance. May he rest in peace.
